West Stand Closed

west stand closed

Darlington Football Club are advising fans that the West Stand at the Arena will be closed for our Bank Holiday Monday clash against Lincoln City.

Staff are still working tirelessly at the ground to make sure the game can go ahead but General Manager Phil Preston has said that due to health and safety they have taken the decision to close the West Stand for this game only.  General manager Phil Preston said: "Work is ongoing and we've almost cleared all of the snow off the pitch, then the whole of the pitch will be covered which will help against the crost, so we're keeping our fingers crossed we don't get any more snow in between now and Monday."

Meanwhile manager Steve Staunton hopes to make to new signings in the new year.  Both players are believed to be Irish and have been training with the squad.  “We have been looking to add to the squad all the time. We will definitely have some new players coming in soon.

"We are looking for experience but most of all we are looking for characters. I have been in football for over twenty years and dressing rooms are no good without characters,” said Staunton.

“Ideally we would like to have a nucleus of a squad which is our own rather than loan players. That is the position we are in. The sooner we can do that the better. If we can get a few players in who are our own then that will be beneficial to us as a club. We will add to the squad though. If it is loans we have to make then so be it. Ideally though we want to be in a situation where we are starting next season, whatever division we are in, with our own players.”

and so it begins....

So what begins, the club are desperate to get the game on, so instead of spreading out resources to make sure the 2 stands are free from ice they focus there attentions to the 1 stand

Shieldsy - 23rd December 2009 20:15:37

Precisely. Plus it does cost money to open the stand, so it does seem unnecessary given everyone can easily fit in one stand.

Sensible move for me and to be honest, as a block six season ticket holder, I kinda miss the noisy lot who visited at the end of last season, be good to have them back if only for a flying visit.

Darlo_Fanatic - 23rd December 2009 20:17:55

With everyone in one stand there will be a much better atmosphere

AndyPark - 23rd December 2009 20:24:07

More of a better atmosphere for the game :) Now lets get our revenge on Lincoln for beating us in the league :) Let's get behind the lads and get a victory ..

Would anyone be that bothered to see this done permenantly??? i know it would be a bit of a shame to not use that stand but it isnt like there isnt enough seats to go around. it would save the club some money at the very least

Why don't they put a big flag in the West Stand, a bit like what Lincoln have done in the main stand for them and also what Bradford have down at there ground. Not the best of idea's but still ..

Was wondering how long before people started trying to turn this into negativity surrounding the club. Let have the game postponed because people want to sit in the west stand or lets have the game on and have a little inconvenience? choice is yours

Shieldsy - 23rd December 2009 20:52:22

I don't think the choice is his. He's a Hartlepool fan...

let hope it does begin ... v rotherham!!

loan_star - 23rd December 2009 22:24:04

If it helps the club then it needs doing but unless you sit towards the east end of the south stand then the atmosphere is shite.

TinShedDarloFan - 23rd December 2009 22:51:44

If it helps improve the atmosphere then i would happily see the west stand being closed, these are an important few months coming up, us fans need to make as much noise and support as we can to help spur this team onto a good run

TKOA - 24th December 2009 00:46:55

Good news. I had a season ticket in the west stand in the first season at the new ground, there was a decent amount of people in and it generally had a good atmosphere. For the next couple of years i sat in the south but attended the odd game in the west stand. The atmosphere in there now is appalling, and must only be about 4 or 500 who actually sit in there. Well done who ever made the decision to close it, theres no need to reopen it until the crowds are a hell of a lot better than they are now.

ah yes good point but the prob is look at how many people complained when we where in admin. would people be prepared to make the sacrafise? i for one would be the club is about all of us fans together not one individual.

Darlo_Weststand19 - 27th December 2009 13:33:02

Burst pipes due to the big freeze. Oh you doom mongers! It will re_open when repairs are done in new year. Now get behind the team.

AndyPark - 30th December 2009 16:11:29

Now closed for the Port Vale game on Saturday.
