The Bottom Ten, Monday Apr 01st 2024

Post by Ginge01 » Tue Apr 02, 2024 12:08 am

In the Bottom Ten, big wins today for Peterborough, Rushall and Darlington. King’s Lynn probably thought they were going to reach safety on 54 points with a 3-0 first half home lead over Scarborough, but they conceded four second half goals to lose 3-4. King’s Lynn’s loss and Blyth’s loss coupled with the Darlington and Rushall wins makes the race for survival a little more tense for several teams.

Darlington’s win lifts them to 19th place, two points above 21st place Farsley who have played one less game.

Two things for Quakers fans.
1) Take care of business, with a result (hopefully a win) over Southport on Saturday.
2) Became a Peterborough Sports fan for the next eight days, they play at Farsley on Saturday, and then home to Farsley the following Tuesday night. Two Peterborough wins would really really help us. After those two games. Farsley come to Blackwell Meadows on Saturday April 13th. It’s going to be a very exciting two weeks. If Darlington were to win that Farsley game, and the right Peterborough vs Farsley results, we may not have to worry about Chester vs Darlington on April 20th to finish the season.

Next Saturday, 06/04 will be huge with these four games being played;

DARLINGTON vs SOUTHPORT, Southport would probably be safe with a win, a Darlington win will separate them away from Blyth and / or Rushall who play each other.

BANBURY vs KING'S LYNN, King’s Lynn should move to safety with 54 points from a win.

BLYTH vs RUSHALL, Blyth don’t want to lose and be tied with Rushall on 50 points, a Blyth win would put them six points clear of Rushall.

FARSLEY vs PETERBOROUGH, A massive game for Farsley, they cannot afford to lose this game, a win for Peterborough, probably safe with 55 points..

Finally, for the first time since they beat Josh Gowling’s Darlington on Dec 23rd, Bishop’s Stortford avoided defeat. Sorry, it’s not an April Fool’s joke, that’s how futile their season has been until their 3-1 victory today over Banbury. I plan to never mention Josh Gowling again!!!

Comments in current league table order, Bottom Ten opponents in upper case

Southport
Southport 0-1 Scunthorpe; Remaining Fixtures; 06/04 DARLINGTON (a), 13/04 RUSHALL (h), 20/04 South Shields (a). In a close game, Southport went down to a 89th min goal. Southport remain in 15th position.

Peterborough
Peterborough 1-0 Gloucester; Remaining fixtures; 06/04 FARSLEY (a), 09/04 FARSLEY (h), 13/04 KING’S LYNN (a), 20/04 Chorley (h). Peterborough won this game with a goal after 66 mins. Peterborough rise two places to 16th position.

Kings Lynn
King’s Lynn 3-4 Scarborough; Remaining fixtures; 06/04 BANBURY (a), 09/04 Chorley (h), 13/04 PETERBOROUGH (h), 20/04 Spennymoor (a). King’s Lynn unbeaten streak ends at 11 games with an amazing game home to Scarborough. At half time, with goals after 3, 8 and 20 mins, King’s Lynn led 3-0 and most have thought they were reaching safety from relegation. Despite conceding two goals, King’s Lynn reached 90 mins leading 3-2 but conceded goals after 92 and 96 mins for a hugely disappointing 3-4 home loss. King’s Lynn fall one place to 17th position.

Blyth
Chorley 2-0 Blyth; Remaining fixtures; 06/04 RUSHALL (h), 13/04 Scunthorpe (a), 20/04 Brackley (h). Blyth went down to two first half goals after 32 and 44 mins at Chorley. Blyth fall one place to 18th position.

Darlington
Warrington 1-3 Darlington; Remaining fixtures; 06/04 SOUTHPORT (h), 13/04 FARSLEY (h), 20/04 Chester (a). A great day for Darlington with this 3-1 win at Warrington. After a goalless first half, Aidan Rutledge converted Ben Hedley’s cross to open the scoring after 51 mins. Cameron Salkeld added a second after 82 mins following a great run by Cedric Main who beat several defenders, laying off the ball for an open goal finish. Warrington set Quakers nerves on edge by scoring after 86 mins to make it 2-1. Their nerves were soothed when Main threaded a great through ball for Salkeld to add Darlington’s third after 90 mins to seal the 3-1 victory. Darlington rise one place to 19th position.

Rushall
Rushall 1-0 Boston; Remaining fixtures; 06/04 BLYTH (a), 09/04 BISHOP'S STORTFORD (h), 13/04 SOUTHPORT (a), 20/04 Warrington (h). Rushall won this game with a goal after 8 mins, Boston went close but were unable to score. Rushall rise one place to 20th position.

Farsley
Spennymoor 3-1 Farsley; Remaining fixtures; 06/04 PETERBOROUGH (h), 09/04 PETERBOROUGH (a), 13/04 DARLINGTON (a), 20/04 Buxton (h). Farsley started well and took the lead after 17 mins, Spennymoor replied after 38 mins. Two more Spenny goals after 72 and 90 resulted in Farsley losing 1-3, Farsley fall two places to 21st position.

Banbury
Bishop’s Stortford 3-1 Banbury; Remaining fixtures; 03/04 Hereford (h) 06/04 KING'S LYNN (h), 09/04 Spennymoor (a), 13/04 Chorley (a), 16/04 Boston (h), 20/04 Tamworth (h). Banbury had a player sent off after 34 mins, and trailed 0-1 at half time. They tied the score after 65 mins, but two more Bishop’s Stortford goals sent them to a 1-3 loss. Banbury remain in 22nd position.

Gloucester
Peterborough 1-0 Gloucester; Remaining fixtures; 06/04 Chester (h), 13/04 Curzon Ashton (a), 20/04 Scunthorpe (h). Gloucester went down 0-1 at Peterborough from a goal after 66 mins. Gloucester remain in 23rd position.

Bishop’s Stortford
Bishop’s Stortford 3-1 Banbury; Remaining fixtures; 06/04 South Shields (a), 09/04 RUSHALL (a), 13/04 Buxton (a), 20/04 Curzon (h). For the first time in 2024, Bishop’s Stortford avoided defeat. They scored after 40, 72 and 90 mins, Banbury scored after 65 mins.

The biggest games that can influence who goes down.
I’ve included Banbury, Gloucester or Bishop’s Stortford games as opposing teams should take advantage of them and get three points in those games.
06/04 is going to be a huge weekend with four big games involving eight Bottom Ten teams, 13/04 has three big games involving six Bottom Ten teams.

06/04 BANBURY vs KING'S LYNN
06/04 BLYTH vs RUSHALL
06/04 DARLINGTON vs SOUTHPORT
06/04 FARSLEY vs PETERBOROUGH

09/04 PETERBOROUGH vs FARSLEY
09/04 RUSHALL vs BISHOP'S STORTFORD

13/04 DARLINGTON vs FARSLEY
13/04 KING’S LYNN vs PETERBOROUGH
13/04 SOUTHPORT vs RUSHALL

The bottom four changed today, fourth bottom Rushall were replaced by Farsley.
Farsley have not won in nine games, they've won three games in 2024, now they face 06/04 PETERBOROUGH (h), 09/04 PETERBOROUGH (a), 13/04 DARLINGTON (a) in their next three games. If they turn their form around and find wins in their next three games, they could survive. Based on their current form, it does not appear they will.

Who goes down prediction? The bottom four sequence at the end of the season
Farsley, Banbury, Gloucester and;

Already relegated. Bishop’s Stortford

This week’s games

06/04 Saturday
Banbury ....,,.... vs King’s Lynn
Blyth .............. vs Rushall

Agree with your assessment that Farsley will complete the bottom 4 Ginge. Blyth need to be careful though, they seem to have been dragged back into things very late after a couple of good recent wins. Lose to Rushall and they have 2 games against teams who are fighting to confirm home playoff semi-finals so I doubt they'll be taking their foot off the gas. Lose vs Rushall and it will be hard to see them getting anymore points and they will be thankful their goal difference is significantly better than Farsley's.

For ourselves and Rushall win our next 2, which both sit in the winnable category, and I think that will be us both safe for another season at NLN level. For Blyth, beat Rushall on Saturday and that will probably see them safe, as I can't see Farsley over turning that points gap and goal difference.

Hi JE93,
It looks like Farsley, they should be feeling pretty desperate at this time, probably low on confidence, and they have the next three games, twice against Peterborough, then here at Blackwell Meadows to turn it around.

When the chasing pack caught them, with Southport winning and Farsley losing

Since March 12th, they've played four games, one home draw with Southport, away losses at Spennymoor, Hereford and Boston. Total 1 point

At the same time,
Peterborough 4 points
Southport 5 points
Blyth 7 points
King's Lynn 8 pints
Darlington 6 points
Rushall 6 points

If we beat them on April 13th, they would need to find six points from Peterborough (H), Peterborough (A), Buxton (H) to pass us. I'm hoping we get a result from Southport also.

The season's not over but I would sooner have Darlington's form than Farsley's form.

It's never over until its over.
On February 10th we lost at home to Alfreton. At that point I could not see us getting enough points to stop up.
I had actually given up any hope whatsoever.
For every team form changes throughout the season, whether that be good form or bad form it still changes.
I will not sleep comfortably until it is mathematically certain that we are staying up.
