The Bottom Eight, Saturday Mar 09th 2024

Post by Ginge01 » Sat Mar 09, 2024 11:49 pm

The Bottom Eight results were good for only two teams today, Southport and King’s Lynn, the other six teams all lost. Five of those teams had high hopes with it being a home game for them, all five lost, Banbury 0-1 Southport and Blyth 0-1 King's Lynn to fellow Bottom Eight rivals.
Darlington’s four game win streak has ended, so they need to regroup for Tuesday night at Blyth in a game that if they won would really boost their survival chances.

Today’s games for the Bottom Eight, Saturday Mar 09th 2024

Bishop’s Stortford 0-5 Scunthorpe
Blyth ............... 0-1 King’s Lynn

Comments in current league table order,

Southport
Banbury 0-1 Southport; Southport won two away wins in five days without conceding a goal, this game was settled with a second half goal after 62 mins. Southport rise one place into 17th position.

Blyth
Blyth 0-1 King’s Lynn; Blyth were unable to break down a King’s Lynn team who won with a 68th min penalty. Blyth fall one place to 18th position, tied with King’s Lynn on 43 points, only above them with a better goal difference.

Kings Lynn
Blyth 0-1 King’s Lynn; King's Lynn with a great goalkeeping effort today took home the three points at Blyth after a penalty was converted on 68 mins. King’s Lynn rise one place to 19th position and are now tied with Blyth on goal difference on 43 points.

Rushall
Rushall 0-3 Buxton; Rushall trailed this game after six mins, and conceded two more in the second half after 70 and 75 mins. Rushall fall one place into 20th position.

Darlington
Spennymoor 2-1 Darlington; A good start for the Quakers had them take the lead after 16 mins from Matty Cornish. Spennymoor responded with goals after 21 and 27 mins. Darlington were unable to score again in this loss. Darlington remain in 21st position.

Banbury
Banbury 0-1 Southport; Banbury has now lost six straight games, their second home loss in five days against Bottom Eight opposition, this time going down to the only goal after 62 mins. Banbury remain in 22nd position.

Gloucester
Gloucester 3-7 Boston; A goal fest at Gloucester with ten goals scored, Gloucester trailed 0-3 after 24 mins but pulling one back, only for Boston to score one min later after 29 mins to make it 1-4. Gloucester scored after 42 mins for a 2-4 half time score, then scored again after 61 mins to make it 3-4. They pressed to tie the score but Boston were able to reply with three more goals to win 3-7. Gloucester remain in 23rd position.

Bishop’s Stortford
Bishop’s Stortford 0-5 Scunthorpe; Bishop’s pointless 2024 continues with them falling behind 0-2 after 5 mins, 0-3 by half time, and 0-5 by full time.

The bottom four from this morning and now fifth bottom Rushall all lost.
The fortunes for Gloucester in 23rd position, Banbury in 22nd position only got worse with one less game to play.

A setback for Darlington in 21st position, Rushall in 20th position learning Southport and King’s Lynn both won. King’s Lynn’s win over Blyth has Blyth sinking in the bottom eight with Tuesday’s night game home to Darlington, a huge game for both. If Darlington recover and win, both teams would be tied on 43 points, only Blyth’s better goal difference keeping them above the Quakers. At the same time, Rushall will be home to Brackley.
I'm not adding Farsley to make this post a Bottom Nine as they are still six points ahead of the Quakers, if we beat Blyth, and Farsley lose home to Warrington, Farsley will be close enough for us to catch.

Who goes down prediction? The bottom four sequence at the end of the season
Blyth or Rushall, I still can’t pick between them at this time, Saturday April 6th Blyth vs Rushall could decide their fate.
Banbury, Gloucester and Bishop’s Stortford
