Darlo vs Boro

Post by Vokuhila » Fri Jul 30, 2021 9:02 pm

Just wondering whether the clubhouse bar's going to be open before kick-off on Sunday?

This'll be my first game since Chris Elliott had his Duckhams gloves on against Farsley, so I'm really looking forward to it.

The clubhouse was open before the Newcastle & H arrogate games, so I think it's safe to assume it'll be open tomorrow.

Yeah it’ll be open, but they close at kickoff and don’t re-open till bang on half time.

I don’t understand why they don’t leave the bar open if people want a drink. Before/after or during the game.

Frankly I'm amazed the club are allowing you in the ground again after your appalling alcohol induced behaviour over the last few years.

I'd hoped to go to this game, but a 1pm kickoff has made it impossible due to work. I wonder why they had made this a 1pm kickoff, instead of the usual 3pm time?

What time does the GP start? Could have something to do with it.

isnt there some daft ruling that you cant serve alcohol in view of the pitch while the match is in progress?

Hopefully be a good game today with more of a solid defensive performance and have enough of the ball to start building a bit of attacking cohesion. Based on Armstrong's interview in the echo about fitness, it'll be interesting to see whether we look leggy at all having trained yesterday in what I'm assuming was more of a fitness based session.

Think we will maybe move to a 4-4-2 now Cassidy has signed give him and Charman some time playing together. Would also be good to get Griffiths some minutes if he's over his injury that he was carrying, and give Nelson a 5 or 10 minute run out, let the lad feel part of the squad and build his confidence a bit.

Think we'll go:

------------------------- Taylor ------------------
Griffiths --- Beeden - Storey --- Smith
Rivers --- Hatfield -- Wheatley - Dos Santos
------------- Cassidy --- Charman -----------

Subs: Martin, Hedley, Hope, Purver, Mondal, Nelson

Yep, but it is a competition rule (defos FA Comp, defos PL and EFL...not sure about NL). Friendlies should theoretically be ok.

Maybe the rugby club needed the facility yesterday?

I was at Deal Town FC yesterday in a Step 5 match and people were drinking on the terraces during the game.

Is there, I didn’t know that to be honest.

I was at the Thornaby vs Marske friendly couple weeks ago and they were serving alcohol from a little hut during the game.

Well we predictably switched off from a short corner (again) for them to score from in the first 5 minutes.

Other than that, we responded quite well and created some quite good opportunities. We had enough chances to win the game and need to become more ruthless in and around the box.

It looked like there was a change of shape to 4-4-2, with Mondal playing upfront with Charman. Dos Santos was particularly impressive and did well with our equaliser.

Trialists Andrew Nelson, Cole Kiernan & Liam Ravenhill were all involved. Still need that dominating centre-half to play alongside Beeden.

The Boro take of the match - or at least the gazette's view.

https://www.gazettelive.co.uk/sport/foo ... s-21197341

Interesting mention of Darlo's physical presence - not something we've heard in a positive way in recent years - although we were up against a team of youngsters so might not apply when we meet your usual NLN teams.

Hope AA took the opportunity to speak to Warnock about any potential loanees available. I think it was last season that Warnock said he wasn't a great fan of the age group football that his youngsters play and they should be out on loan with local teams playing proper competitive football.

As it is a slow....................news day. Anyone like me think the ball no where near crossed the line for our equaliser on Sunday?

I did wonder ball looked on the line to me for Mondal's equaliser.

Got to say watching the highlights I also think it would be pretty touch and go whether Coburn was offside when he scores for Boro. Not that it makes the defending of the whole first and second phase of the corner any better, no one then 3 people seem to take responsibility for closing down the short ball. Then there's 3 or 4 times we're just not strong enough or slow to get out. It's been our achilies heal for a couple of seasons now and it really needs work defending set pieces well could save us conceding 5-10 goals in a season and the potential for that to change results in our favour is massive. Need some big leaders on that pitch who are going to organise and scream and shout when needed.

Rest of the game looked like we played some nice stuff in parts, albeit they aren't exactly the style of team who we'll be playing this season, especially in terms of physicality. Dos Santos is looking like a fun player, if the rainbow flick vs Newcastle hadn't already convinced you. Even in glimpses Nelson looks like a no brained of a signing the quality in his strike that hit the bar at the end was massive considering the lad hasn't played for year.

Still plenty of work to do and hopefully we can start getting some wins and scoring a few more goals against Sunderland and Whitby this week give us a bit of bounce going into the season.
