Darlington v Buxton

As with all games now, another must win. A couple of injuries at the back so will be interesting to see who plays where. 2-0 Darlo.

A scrappy goal any goal as long as it's for Darlington FC which gives us a win

I accidentally booked 6 tickets from Lime Street to Darlington £2 return each for Saturday. Still 2 spare if anyone's interested. Train goes via Victoria and Leeds. Not sure how that would work. £84 now!!!

Another really insightful update!

Again no mention of new signings or clarification on injuries - I find it staggering that these questions aren’t asked. SW appears the type of straight talking manager who would say it exactly as it is so surely just ask ?

Or do we really think that keeping this info gives us the edge over our opponents? 🤦🏻‍♂️😂

No mention of the injuries to Siddick and Lawlor leaving us with only one CB and the obvious question on our wonder signing.

Wonder if Dan Maw might be given his first chance with so many defenders out. Extra fan points for those who even remember him 😁

I’d expect Barrow will slot in to CB alongside Lees with griff and headley at FB

We can still make a back 4 of Hedley, Barrow, Lees, Griffiths. We have the forgotten man Jordan Windass too, who seems be flying under the radar in the perennially injured / massive waste of money stakes.

Assuming Platt doesn't make it.

4-3-1-2 / 4-3-3 depending on where you put Cornish.

------------------ Young ----------------
Griffiths -- Lees -- Barrow -- Hedley
--- Hatfield --- Lindley --- Liddle ---
----------------- Cornish ---------------
------------ Main --- Curry ------------

Subs: Windass, Salkeld, Rivers, Nelson, Ngandu

May as well put this on repeat, but why even bother with a pre match interview.

How on earth can we fail to ask about the central defence position and whether we can recall Sukar, never mind the Asante situation. It’s like we are just going through the motions of doing one but know it’s a complete waste of time. Am certain that if asked, Watson would give his honest view, and that’s all we are asking. Why does no one higher up at the club see the same thing?

Also, because of the defensive injuries the fact that we continue to sign no creativity go,s under the radar. What has happened to the £30k+?

So so frustrating, and worse than it has ever been.

Just a thought, hope I'm way off base, but Cedric Main (undisclossed fee + wages etc) couldn't have cost us £30,000.00 could he?

I don't expect 30k goes quite as far as many think. Just playing about with numbers below assuming contracts run till end of May and all players were paid from first week in Jan. (Before the comments I have no idea what the below players are paid by the club the below is illustrative so show how quickly you can spend 30k).

Main - 500pw x 21 = 10,500 × 1.138 = 11,949 + transfer fee (say 5k) = 16,949
Barrow - 400pw x 21 = 8400 × 1.138 = 9,559
Cornish - 300pw × 21 = 6300 × 1.138 = 7,169

Total = £33,677

You will make some savings against that with the loan out of Sukar & Moke. But I presume that will be offset further by amounts were paying Asante, over and above what we were paying Hazel.

If the above is anywhere near accurate it means we're fishing for creative players with c.0 budget. So not so surprising there aren't loads of quality options available to us.

Think those numbers are quite conservative.

I know full backs in NPL Division One costing more than what you have down for Barrow there.

And youth strikers on loan from fellow NLN clubs to that level who are paid more than what you have down for Cornish.

I would say that both Main and Cornish are very much creative players and very good signings. Just look at the chances Main laid on a plate on Tuesday. Watson also said that Rivers (who can be creative) had looked very lively in training and he also did well on Tuesday. Watson maybe also thinks that with Ngandu as back-up, things are covered. We created loads on Tuesday... what we really need is for the chances to fall to Main.

I had just had a Quick Look on google and it seemed to
Say a mild strain is around 3 weeks. You are right it’s utterly ridiculous. The least we could expect is an estimated recovery time from the club. This is the bloke who was going to have a ‘mini pre season’ and get us out of this mess. What a catastrophically awful signing and a reminder of JG’s disastrous time in charge.

In David Hodgson's book Three Times a Quaker, I'm sure there's a story, possibly 2 stories of players signing up to deals knowing they weren't right.

I don't know if this is the case here but it does happen, according to D.H.

Regardless of whether Asante thinks it right or not, the club have offered him a contract, he has accepted and now we have to own this decision.

What is worrying is that there are more & more rumours circulating that he is contracted until 2025.

Looking at the injured list, surely Sukar must be recalled. Having a young GK playing behind a scratch defence does not bode well, yet it is another game that we must win to have any chance of avoiding relegation.

Keeper may be young, but he is good, confident and controls his area, no worries from me on him. If plat is free he should play centre half as we have players who can fit into midfield, in fact in pre season Headley looked excellent in midfield when he played there.

Where’s Windass, ? Anyone.
Not that he’s a big miss, just someone else on the wage bill I suppose.

He trained last week , not sure if things have changed now

Squad looks really thin at the minute with the amount of injuries , I’m really surprised we haven’t got anyone in on loan as yet

Cannot believe yet again no new faces coming in looking at all these injuries we have.Even Blyth have picked up a winger on loan from York and fully understand players not fancying a club 2nd bottom of the league but there must be players out there willing to come and who are available.Really don't know what's going on with our club atm.

How hard can it be for Ray to ask if there’s any fresh faces coming in. The worst Watson can say is we got turned down or there’s nobody out there that he thinks is good enough (Who we’re able to sign).

Surely there’s a 2018 Andrew Nelson or a 2019 Tyrone O’Neill out there.

A) watson thinks we have enough
B) we are utterly skint
C) nobody wants to come
D) fook it let’s get relegated

A deal was agreed for Donowa but the player decided to go elsewhere. They are trying to get players in but it seems we aren’t an attractive option for most now.
