Best Darlo goals you’ve seen live

Re: Best Darlo goals you’ve seen live
Mitch Cook at Northampton on a beautiful spring day in April 1991, not just the best goal I’ve ever seen Darlo score, but probably the best goal I’ve ever seen ‘live’ (ie at a match I attended) by any team. Prud rolls the ball to Toman, he splits two Northampton players with a beautiful curling pass to play in Super Les on Darlo’s right hand side over the half way line, Les crosses first time to the opposite side of the pitch where Cook leathers it, full on the volley from the corner of the Northampton box. From Prud's hands to the back of the Northampton net in about seven seconds. Incredible.
Pretty ropey quality but here it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9-7ZAo-TCA.

Re: Best Darlo goals you’ve seen live
Other than the length of time and that it was a mid week away match, I'm surprised no one has mentioned Steve Holbrooks goal for Darlington at Highfield Road (Coventry) in the league cup during the 1973/74 season. Darlington eventually lost 5-1.
It was as close to a mirror image of Ron Ferguson's goal against Sheffield Wednesday as it is possible to get.

Found it on YouTube, this was the goal I was trying to describe back in June it was vs Mansfield Town not Chester but one hell of a strike...real_darlo_85 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 10:34 pmA better one than this was his strike against Chester in a 1-0 win at the Arena in the JP Trophy (I suppose what is the Papa John's Trophy now?), a strike on the half volley from about 35 yards into the top corner. I think we got to the Northern semifinals that year, think maybe 06/07 season?Ghost_Of_1883 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 8:46 pmThe Martin Smith one...I'm assuming I'm talking about the one you mean, as he only scored crackers...will have been the goal away to Lewes in the FA Cup, where we won 4-1.Nimrod wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 7:43 pm1. Gabbiadini (home to Exeter 1998-99 season. Completed his hat trick by beating three men and then lashing one into the top corner from 30 yards)
2. Gabbiadini (home to Leyton Orient 1999-00 season. Hit one on the outside of his boot and chipped the keeper on an angle)
3. Martin Smith (away to ….?? It was a cup game), hit it first time on the volley, a bit like that famous Justin Fashanu goal. Am guessing 2005-06 season?

You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"

Kennedy got a second wonder goal from distance against Rochdale . Think it must have been the 08-09 season at Spotland .

Yes I remember that game, wasn't that just before we went into admin and Kennedy moved to play at Rochdale?

That Martin Smith goal led me to this from Neil Wainwright, right on the postage stamp:

"At a meeting held at the Grammar School on Friday last - Mr Phillip Wood M.A., in the chair - it was resolved to form an Association Football Club for Darlington and neighbourhood. The opinions of those present were so unanimous as to the desirability of this step, that a committee was formed to complete the organisation of the club, and Mr Craven, 17, Garden Street, was appointed secretary pro tem." - The Northern Echo, Monday 23rd July 1883

Chris Senior - FA Trophy Final - Not spectacular or a worldy from the halfway line. Just a simple header on the goal line that sent about 10,000 Darlo fans mad that were there.
Re: Best Darlo goals you’ve seen live
Steve Mardenborough away to Shrewsbury many years ago!
Re: Best Darlo goals you’ve seen live
Mick Tates,35 yarder I think against Shrewsbury back in the day, fell perfectly, another I thought was cleverly scored was corks back heal from about 3 yards, can't remember who we were playing scored 6 I remember.
Re: Best Darlo goals you’ve seen live
Think you are referring to Cork’s goal in a victory against Boston during the Conference winning season. If I remember correctly he may have scored 4 that night.
Re: Best Darlo goals you’ve seen live
He did, including an 8 minute hat-trick apparently, in a 6-1 win. https://darlingtonfc.co.uk/news/corking ... or-quakers
Re: Best Darlo goals you’ve seen live
Les McJannett also scored a back heeled goal in the FA Cup v Halifax. We were Conference and they were in div 4 but we beat them easily enough 3-0Old Git wrote:Think you are referring to Cork’s goal in a victory against Boston during the Conference winning season.
