Budget

Post by Piggy_ » Thu Aug 05, 2021 4:35 am

Given the 130k raised by the fans in the summer and the notable departures of (presumably) bigger earners, do people think there’s still a sizeable chunk left burning a hole in AA’s back pocket?
Perhaps to entice David Wheater or another experienced centre back??

Alun has said that he has a sizeable chunk of the BTB funds left.

Good to know. Sounds like it’s a difficult market out there for us right now. I had thought it might have been the opposite.

it doesnt all have to be spent in pre-season though especially if there are a few bad injuries early on.

I'd say it would be a wise thing to do to keep a decent chunk of it back given our bad luck with injuries across August/September in previous seasons.

Agreed. Although it does sound like we’re heading into our opening game with question marks over the central defence. I appreciate they’re young lads, but the feedback hasn’t sounded great! Hope they come good.

The problem is that players will find clubs & if we have to get a player from another club, it will come at a price. I'd be surprised if Alun doesn't add a player or two before the opening game.

We desperately need an experienced head in that defence.
Looked poor at the back again last night.

I’m not sure we’ll get Wheater now tbh. Dont know who else is out there right now?!

If we’re going into the Telford game with Lexus and Storey, we might encounter some problems by sounds of it.

Heard AA speaking to someone after the match, said he’s got no chance of getting Wheater as he doesn’t wanna continue playing.

I’d expect if no further incomings in defence then we’ll start with the 5 at the back that played the second half against Telford.

6 months to sort the defensive fragilities, yet arguably we were in a better position at the start of last season.

Don't panic. Alun is awaiting answers from 2/3 players expect something before the Telford game. Certainly upto 2 weeks into the season before a final count of players coming in.
