Favourite Darlo 11
Not to much to keep us going this last couple of weeks so thought I would put this out there, Maybe been done before but always good to have a good think back to some of the players we have seen pull on the black and white shirt over the years so I am after your favourite ever Darlo 11. Any formation you want and remember its your favourite, Not the best 11 that you have watched, Be it just someone that was nowhere near the level of other players but always gave 100% and you enjoyed watching them play for whatever reason.
Il get things going with a 3-5-2 and I can remember back to 1993ish and onwards.
GK - Andy Collett
CB - Craig Liddle
CB - Sean Gregan
CB - Gary Brown
RM - Neil Wainwright
LM - Stephen Thompson (put him out there because I just want him in my team and he can do that job)
CM - Gary Bannister (Probably the best midfielder I have seen for us, An absolute class act)
CM - Phil Turnbull
CM - Matty Appleby (Again not the position he played often for us but he can play there and he was brilliant to watch in that 96 season)
ST - Marco Gabbiadini (obviously one of our best ever players but worth the admission fee to see play and more)
ST - Darren Roberts (Super Daz when I was going through my teen years ringing out in the tin shed)
Notable mentions to Ian Clarke, Richard Hodgson, Leon Scott, Terry Galbraith, Graeme Armstrong and for a very brief spell with us Pedro Paulo (rip).

Re: Favourite Darlo 11
Three of my all time favourites that you've missed.
Paul Heckingbottom
Neil Heaney
Carl Shutt.
All three were such a pleasure to watch playing, especially Shutt playing in goal

Re: Favourite Darlo 11
Think you've always got to include Pawel Abbott, almost guaranteed to create something, even in games we were second best. I would also swap Gary Brown for Steve Foster.
"At a meeting held at the Grammar School on Friday last - Mr Phillip Wood M.A., in the chair - it was resolved to form an Association Football Club for Darlington and neighbourhood. The opinions of those present were so unanimous as to the desirability of this step, that a committee was formed to complete the organisation of the club, and Mr Craven, 17, Garden Street, was appointed secretary pro tem." - The Northern Echo, Monday 23rd July 1883

How come no Matt Clarke or Robbie Blake?
Re: Favourite Darlo 11
To make it fair, just have best XI for each decade. Oldies can do 1950/1960/1970,
Tweenies 1980/1990
Youngsters 2000, 2010

True but Kev Smith and Gary Brown in the same defence. Love them both but not playing together.spen666 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 24, 2021 2:50 pmSome goals in that line up!eddie-rowles wrote: ↑Thu Jun 24, 2021 1:17 pmGK :Fred Barber

Andy Collett
Neil Austin
Neil Aspin
Craig Liddle
Paul Heckingbottom
Neil Wainwright
Ricky Ravenhill
Martin Gray
Neil Heaney
Pawel Abbott
Marco Gabbiadini
Four players in the same team with the same name might get confusing!

love it! wrote:Considering we are Darlington 1883 I'm happy that we are named correctly
Re: Favourite Darlo 11
Mine is very similar to the one above. Realistically I am 1998 onwards.
Jason De Vos instead of Neil Aspin
Jason Kennedy instead of Ricky Ravenhill
Somehow fitting Martin Smith in as well instead of Martin Gray but without removing Neil Heaney...
No idea how, just do it and feel sorry for the opposition right back.

Re: Favourite Darlo 11
I wish the young uns could have seen this team in their prime! There would have to be an X rating on Eddie Rowles' curly perm which I believe was later copied by one Scunthorpe winger, Kevin Keegan.eddie-rowles wrote: ↑Thu Jun 24, 2021 1:17 pmGK :Fred Barber
