Uncovered and 1883
by Scott Thornberry - 14th May 2012

Details of how to re-invest in 1883 are now available on www.buydarlo.org.
Here at Darlo Uncovered we are investing the current DUFF fund into 1883 and as you will see on the BuyDarlo website, we are willing to collect more cash and invest further. But we feel that we must be clear in what you get if you put your money our way.
The Darlo Uncovered Fighting Fund was originally set up to purchase a few sandwiches for the players before the Barrow game. We have ended up with over £20k of donations. As such we have a surplus and chose to use the funds donated to help save the club and we still have a club today So many thanks to everybody who chipped in and helped us out over the last 5 months.
We have a database of email addresses to which we will be sending e-mails to over the next few weeks, making people aware of our situations. We have now found ourselves in a strange situation and one which I did not see coming. Our intention is not to gain power, just to help save Darlington Football Club and we feel we have done that. Going forward we will continue our efforts on pulling our club back together, regrouping and rebuilding.
With this in mind you do have the option to invest your money into 1883 through the DUFF fund, but please be aware that we will not be issuing any share certificates etc. This may change in future, but at the moment we have nothing in place for such things.
Our idea as it stands has not really changed since the crowdcube model and is simple. If there are any issues which go out to vote then we will email the addresses we have on our database which relate to all of those who donated to DUFF via Paypal. DUFF members can then email back their choice and the majority wins. Nothing complicated, just straightforward stuff.
It doesn't matter how much has been donated into DUFF by an individual, everybody has the right to one vote. I just want everybody to be clear on what you will get if you donate via Uncovered.
If you wish to donate to DUFF then we accept donations via Paypal. our address is scott@ukrivals.net

If the DUFF/Uncovered money is invested in the CIC then then Uncovered would have 1 vote regardless of how many people's money went into the DUFF fund.If the DUFF/Uncovered money is used to buy a share in the club then it would have a vote equal to the weight of what % share it held.
In answer to your question: you'd have more say if you invested in the CIC individually rather than investing in the CIC as a group. IMO it makes more sense for a supporter group to invest directly in the club IF they want a real voice on how the club runs.
HOWEVER, given the CIC can own any % of the club it likes, once it holds a share of 51% or more all voices from the individual fan groups will no longer be heard.

At the trust meeting last night, the guy from Supporters Direct pointed out that DUFF, DAFTS & the Tykes would not be able to legally own shares, I can't remember his exact wording as to why, but it was along the lies of the fact that they are unincorporated or have no legal standing or something or other.Have you checked this out at all, I'd hate for it to be a problem further down the line?

i'll get slated for saying this but it is a good time for the 1883 board to talk with SD. New board, things have moved on, time to re-open discussions. Tom hall would be a useful ally in our desire to form a community owned club. Please, this is not a criticism of anybody just a practical proposal.

Might be a question for 1883 but ... if it is one person / one vote, does that mean that each of the supporter groups get one vote each? Scott has laid out the process for emailing investors in DUFF to decide how the DUFF vote will be used, but that is a single vote isn't it?So if I want to have the power to vote on issues in the CIC should I invest in the CIC directly / personally from June?
