Double Signing

double signing

Simon Davey has added another two players to his squad with a double signing this weekend.

The Darlington boss has snapped up Trinidad and Tobago international goalkeeper Kelvin Jack, who was out of contract after finishing the season with League One Southend United.

He’s also signed experienced Conference striker Chris Senior, who scored 15 goals in 40 games for Altrincham in the Blue Square Premier last season. Both players have signed one-year deals at te Northern Echo Arena.

Jack, 34, played for T&T in the 2006 World Cup while with Dundee in Scotland and then signed for Gillingham, playing 11 games for them. He spent the second half of last season with Southend without making any appearances.

Jack had previously played for TrinCity United SSC, Joe Public, Yavapai Roughriders, VCU Rams, Doc’s Khelwalaas, W Connection and San Juan Jabloteh before originally coming to England to sign for Reading in 2004. He’s made 33 appearances for T&T.

Senior has spent the last three-and-a-half seasons with Altrincham, scoring 34 goals from 127 league and cup games. The 28-year-old began his career with Scarborough and scored 19 goals from 81 games before signing for Halifax in 2005.

He scored seven goals from 49 games for the Shaymen before initially joining Altrincham on loan in January 2007, signing permanently that July.

Kelvin Jack and Chris Senior sign, very good signing in my opinion

e4sby - 14th May 2010 17:16:42

Thats two decent keepers for the conference and a striker who knows where the goal is in that league, SD seems to have his head screwed on.

Looking forward to seeing who the next few players are....

Spyman - 14th May 2010 17:21:48

This is encouraging. While Jack hasn't played a huge amount of first team games in his UK career, he's got plenty of experience and wouldn't have been signed by so many clubs if there wasn't something about him.

Chris Senior looks like a good solid Conference forward who averages about 1 in 3 at that level. Plenty of Conference experience, which shows that Davey appreciates we need a certain sort of player.

Darlo_H - 14th May 2010 17:22:42

A good experienced keeper who'll certainly keep Sammy on his toes and a striker who knows the division and scored 15 goals in a crap Altrincham team.

Davey is certainly starting to impress me now.

Dn1 - 14th May 2010 17:24:23

Great news, SD knows exactly what we need, although its still early, already there is an air of optimism which would of never existed under SS.

This is good positive news once again from Davey. Kelvin Jack could be vital role for us in keeping the goalkeepers number 1 spot up for grabs.

As for Senior, he always seem to score, so he could prove to be a decent signing.

In Davey we trust.

Quakerz - 14th May 2010 17:31:16

balls, we really need a striker now!

Thats really bad news.

We'll have to see some new signings now!

Unsure why he would go full time unless he has lost his job at Sheffield United?

Gutted...he was a joy to watch at times.

I am gutted!

This is a big loss, not just as a footballer but as a genuine character.

Good luck Chris - if it doesn't work out I am sue you'll be welcome back - and you'll get a great reception I am sure when we beat play Darlo.

Didn't see that one coming.

Staggered to honest, thought part-time suited him, and he seemed to love it here.

Apart from this boby blow, it worries me about Young and Clee now, as they all used to travel together.

We've lost our two best strikers and 3rd is still recovering from serious injury.

Keeping the faith though.

Oh blimey!

We REALLY need a couple of strikers from somewhere now (unless GH has already got someone lined up?)
Gutted. Thought CS was a cracking player who was committed to play for us for years to come. Just goes to show you never know.
On the other hand, I don't begrudge him FT football for a few years (even if he has dropped us in it somewhat!)

As heartbreaking as this news is, I'd like to wish Chris all the best and to also thank him for the commitment and passion he's always shown since he's been with the club. In a stupid sort of way I'm glad he joined a club like Darlington and not someone like Fleetwood.

I guess we've just got to put our trust and belief in GH and KM that they will find replacements who are up to the job. They found a couple of gems last season and we must believe they can do it again.

It's also got to be absolutely nailed on now that we'll play Darlington first game of the season!

This is really worrying. I hope GH can secure the services of the rest of the somewhat depleted squad.

Where is the cash injection going to come from to entice some new players?

KM may get a game at this rate

With Kelvin Jack signing and talk of this O'Neil Thompson, we are fast becoming Simon Davey's Rasta Army. It's going to cost a fortune in different flags for the arena.

Darlo_Fanatic - 14th May 2010 18:55:14

Am not going to lie and say how brilliant these two players are how amazing there going to be instead i wish them good luck for next season and i hope there as good as people make out that there.

Excellent misuse of the English language.

al_quaker - 14th May 2010 19:14:48

Seems like 2 good signings. Jack sounds like a decent keeper (plus have we ever had someone who's played at a World Cup playing for us before?!). Senior could be a cracking signing. 15 goals for Altrincham, hopefully he'll match that for us, at least.

al_quaker - 14th May 2010 19:19:23

Also I like this quote from Altrincham's message board

"looks like darlington have learnt from the mistakes of others and are getting decent conference players for their instant push back to league footy"

It seems like you need a certain type of player for BSP football, and Davey has signed one. Davey has impressed me with everything he's done so far. All the signings sound promising. the retained list is just about right. He's saying all the right things. Hopefully he can keep it up

Am sure it used to piss you off when Barnie_Pete went around pointing out every ones spelling and grammar. I see you took over his role of been the sergeant of the grammar police (or otherwise known as being the messageboard dick) plus it done on purpose and am glad to see your as eagle-eyed as ever.

Barney Pete used to annoy me like everybody else, but not for his Grammar Policing.

DFC123 - 15th May 2010 06:38:14

Senior has a good record at this level, so he should be good

ill admit i have never heard of Jack but if he has 33 international caps he mustbe good

MikeinBlack - 15th May 2010 08:30:17

Quietly confident that we should at least be able to compete in the top half of the BSP now without too much trouble. Keeping situation appears to be sorted thank God! However, with two good keepers one will be dissapointed at being on the bench so may ask to leave after a while if he feels he was promissed first team football perhaps? Hope not though. Striker looks ok but we need another proven one to play alongside him. Looks like we are building a solid team who should play some of the best football we've seen for quite a while at the Arena.
