Davey has already started building his squad for next season and Jamie Chandler has agreed to return to the club on a two year contract after being told he will not be kept on at the Stadium Of Light this summer.

Chandler played 14 games for Darlo earlier in the season after Colin Todd brought him in from the Black Cats.  But Steve Staunton soon sent Chandler back to Sunderland, which some say was the first of his many mistakes.  Talking of the signings Davey said

"I’m absolutely delighted to get both Jamie and Dominik on board for next season.

“I’ve heard a lot of good reports about Jamie from his spell with the club earlier in the season and I’ve also watched DVDs and been to see him play for Sunderland’s reserves.

“He comes from good stock. He has England youth caps behind him and he’s been brought through a fantastic football club in Sunderland so he has a terrific grounding.

“He’s just the type of player and character we want at this football club. He’s hungry to succeed and as soon as we spoke to him he made it clear that he was desperate to come back to the club which was a great sign.

“I signed Dominik on loan from Turkish club Sakaryaspor in summer 2007 and he spent half a season with us at Barnsley. He’s a left-sided player and can play either as a left-back, a left wing-back or left midfield so he offers us plenty of options down that side.

“He’s very powerful, quick and has a fantastic left foot and he’ll add some balance to the side. He also chips in with the odd spectacular goal!

“He’ll offer us some valuable experience having played at a top level so he’ll be another quality addition for us.”

*there was a rumour at last nights game that another former player could be returning.  Tommy Wright could be returning.
