Quakers Throw Away Lead
by Scott Thornberry - 21st April 2010
Darlington stormed into a 3 goal lead within the first half our of their game away at Cheltenham Town, it was the first time this season Darlington had scored 3 goals in a game. But even that was not enough as the home team took advantage of a somewhat fragile Darlington defence.
After the game Simon Davey told The Northern Echo “We did well to go 3-0 up but games last 90 minutes, not 27. We pushed the self-destruct button and ended up hanging on for a draw. Their heads went down and the mentality needs to change.
“I have come into the club for the last ten games of the season and this is an assessment period for me. I am not only looking at footballing ability but mental toughness as well. There’s a defeatist attitude within the players which I’ve noticed before, even in games we have won."
