Talking after the defeat Davey said “It would have been nice to get a home win in our first home game. There wasn’t much between the sides, we gave everything but there were a few tired legs in the team.

“You’d think players could cope with two games in three days. I can’t fault their effort but there’s a lot of work to be done, I knew that when I got the job, but it’s still disappointing that we’ve lost.”

Davey has also stated that he is wanted to try and keep leading goalscorer Tadhg Purcell.  He told The Northern Echo “Everyone wants goalscorers and if he’s got eight after the turn of the year in this league, you’d like to think he’d be a 20-plus striker in the Conference.  We’ll try our hardest to keep hold of him, but he’s also got to try his best to impress us between now and the end of the season.”

In response Purcell states that he has already been approached by the club to discuss his future but has put that thought on the back burner.  “I’ve been approached about a contract but I’d prefer to wait until the end of the season, I don’t like to talk about contracts now.  It’s up in the air at the moment, that’s the way football is when you sign short-term contracts. The onus was on me to come over and try to impress. It was a risk for me and it was a risk for Darlington."

“At the end of the season we’ll have a chat and the first people I’ll be speaking to will be Darlington. We’ll see what happens at the end of the season. If I stay here or whether I move on, we’ll just have to see.  Hopefully my future is over here,” he said. “I want to make a career for myself over here, I want to pursue it as far as I can and get to as high a level as I can. I don’t think going back to the League of Ireland is an option.  I played in the league and I saw enough, now I’ve taken the opportunity to come here.

"You can go as far as you want over here, I mean, the best division in the world is in this country. It’s good to be playing football here. It’s only a stone’s throw from home and I think I could settle here.”
