shirts 4 africa update

Darlo Uncovered has a proud tradition of helping out the football club but also thinking 'outside of the box' to help others.

In October of 2004 I first launched the 'shirts 4 africa appeal' which managed to gather a collection of over 120 shirts. It was a fantastic result off the pitch and we featured on the front page of the local newspapers. 9 years on the picture below was spotted on the BBC news website, it got us thinking! So the Darlo Aid appeal was relaunched!

Darlo fan Mike Fawcett is part of a group of about 15 people who took it on themselves as a to go to a village in Tanzania. They were put in touch with a charity that works in that country. He and his friends will be taking the shirts over with them and the first batch should be leaving next month.

This time our collection has been bigger than the one in 2004, a massive surprise. We have collected around 160 football shirts and we will bring you an update of the distribution of the shirts when we receive some photos and videos from the charity trip.

Many thanks to all who took time out to donate and to Quaker retail for taking in some of the donations. I am sure this small act will put a smile on many children's faces in a country where there is so much poverty and disease.

Thank you once again, initiatives likes this make me proud to be a Darlo fan.
