ALAN WHITE RETURNS!

Alan White Returns!
Originally published: 15th January 2010

Darlington born defender Alan White has returned to the club on loan until the end of the season.

The 33 yeard old centre half left the club in the summer after the idiots of the adminstrators treat all of the players disgracefully.  He made a surprise move to releagted Luton Town but fitted in well and played 22 games for The Hatters.  But since they changed their manager it seems he no longer features in their plans and Steve Staunton, as revealed on Uncovered's Twitter post on Wednesday night, made the call to Luton to see if he was available.

White is not only a Darlington lad, but he adds so much to our team.  He is very vocal, very competative, he gives some grunt to the back line and also gives the fans a lift to see the return of who some would have said was last seasons player of the year.

Staunton has also added another two to his squad, striker Patrick Dean moved from Hibernian and midfielder Gareth Waite arrived from  Spennymoor Town.

The return home of White is the most positive news to me for over a year.  It gives us a lift and hopefully it could also go someway to resolving Steve Fosters situation.  Judging by the clubs comments on Wednesday night they are not going to budge.  With White returning it could be a case of Foster sitting out the rest of the season, maybe being offloaded in the next few weeks or agreeing to the removal of this clause.  Have to say I am on Fosters side on this.

Talking to The Northern Echo Steve Staunton said “I’m absolutely delighted to be bringing Alan back,”

“It’s a terrific signing for us and one that I’ve been keen to do since the window opened.

“What was very pleasing was that Alan was desperate to come back. He loves his home town and couldn’t get up here quick enough to do the deal, which shows how much he’s desperate to play for us and to help us stay in League Two.''

Great signing, a player who is not only experienced at this level...but who also is known to be able to perform in League Two.

Just hope that these unknowns that Staunton is signing can hack it too.
cameron-darlo - 15th January 2010 14:35:39
get in! well happy with that, was gutted when he left. hope he can do a job!
divas - 15th January 2010 14:42:17
now we just need to wait for notts county to go into meltdown and ricky to come home

i've also a strange feeling that white coming back might just help resolve the foster situation
TDS - 15th January 2010 14:43:02
Wahey!

Now we need somebody to score the goals. Oh and fozzie's contract sorted.

Best defence in league 2? Ha.
bedaledarlo - 15th January 2010 14:51:26
Our player of the season in my opinion last year, despite a few reds.

Scored some headers, won countless points defensively for us and this is just simply excellent news.

Stayin up!???!!!

Good news.

Now, what are the chances of him getting himself sent off tomorrow?

AndyPark - 15th January 2010 15:03:45
Cracking news, well done Steve Staunton for bringing him back.
weststanddave - 15th January 2010 15:09:23
Absolutely fantastic Whitey!!

I'm now starting to feel real optimism for the remainder of the season. Yes, it's going to be almost impossible to stay up-we all know that, but I'm feeling as good about Darlo as I've done for ages.

Forget the snow, forget the ice, forget the freezing temperatures - Whitey's back in town and he'll be busting a gut for darlo. If the other new signings can do the same we have a glimer of hope

Can't wait for tomorrow
DarloOnTheUp - 15th January 2010 15:10:02
I'm well pleased with this news! Hmm, I have a sudden urge to place a bet on a Darlo win tomorrow...

Possibly a 1-0 win?
divas - 15th January 2010 15:10:41
weststanddave, are you also weststand19?
aveda - 15th January 2010 15:14:44
That's more like it, good news at last
weststanddave - 15th January 2010 15:16:54
Definitely not, I have been asked this before. I'm not Hutchy, never have been Hutchy.

If you notice my location is Teesside, I moved out of Darlo 15 years ago
Hilly - 15th January 2010 15:17:20
Best Darlo news I've heard in a long, long time.

Let's go down with some fight
ketton avenue - 15th January 2010 15:20:50
He's raring to go and looking forward to coming home. He's happy with the other signings as well.

Just what the Club needs and could be the turning point. A big lift for the fans and hopefully the players will respond as well.

Well well well!! Cracking signing by Steve Staunton. We should technically now be all good defensively. We've missed the rough and readiness of Alan White. With White's return I can see Foster wanting to join the action and have that clause removed. However, if he doesn't - who cares?!! White and Miller as centre backs will prove vital between now and the end of the season.

I dare say we could do with one more centre midfielder, a right midfielder and a goalkeeper and we are done.

Come on Staunton - bring back Simon Brown too!!!
phillyallinson - 15th January 2010 15:37:14
Alan white white white

To be fair, I think the signing of Alan White has just lifted the supporters and most probably the players. I've no doubt this will show against Aldershot as well. Or am I getting carried away? lol
OHDFC - 15th January 2010 16:08:30
I'm dreaming of a White Alan
Just like the one I used to know
Launching into the tackle,
with an evil cackle
And taking ball and man in one go

I'm dreaming of a White Alan
Once more scoring with his head
And maybe our season won’t be dead
So long as none of his cards are red

I'm dreaming of a White Alan
To instil in us a bit of fight
He'll make opponents turn in fright
When they meet our Centre Half of White

It's like relegation the f***ing musical.

At last, a signing to be happy about. This will make such a difference to the fans and hopefully those playing alongside him as well.

Welcome back Alan White, White, White! :)

Well we left SS with absolutely no doubt at the Fans' Forum that Whitey's return would be a popular move! Who said we can't influence things.

Get Simon Brown back next.

The strange thing is they are getting excited about the signing of a centre half with one leg, judging by the picture on the feature about it!! :o

Just checked bet365 for you, but they haven't got Alan White on their scorecast list yet.
tdk1 - 15th January 2010 19:06:37
According to Einstein's theory of relativity, Alan White can actually roundhouse kick you yesterday.

Alan White has 12 moons. One of those moons is Earth.

Alan White uses a night light. Not because Alan White is afraid of the dark, but because the dark is afraid of Alan White.

Alan White's house has no doors, only walls that Alan White walks through.

I'm glad he's back but let's hope he's fit and is the same player we let go. I wouldn't be giving him the captains arm band as has been suggested by some, it's got to be earned.

Who else has earnt it?
tdk1 - 15th January 2010 19:52:53
Miller has shown great maturity of late, and is as close to an ever-present as we've known all season and deserves the armband. It's good to be back in a position where we have players who have been captains elsewhere as White was at Notts. Good times.

Miller, and it's up to White to show he's good enough to take it if he wants it

This is great news but lets not forget that we have no decent wingers or forwards, not including Purcell who we don't know anything about. And no experienced keeper. And a load of new signings who may or may not be good enough - I hope Staunton knows what he is doing.

Lost when tackling to stop a goal, had it stitched back on at half time by a woman who had her knitting kit in her car. ;)

Ok, I'll take your point. However given the choice of Miller or White over who had the captaincy I would go with White all day. The guy just instills confidence, and if what SS has said about him being that determined to get up here and get us out of this mess....then it's a simple decision for me.

We do also have Whelan and Dean. Whelan is essentially a new signing. Surely one of those 3 must have goals in them somewhere! Collins is also a decent player but apparently he goes back after tomorrow.

Just what the Team needs, we have been crying out for a 30 odd year old legend with league experience and leadership qualities, shame we haven't had one of those in the squad and available all season
