4th Place Finish This Season

Post by spen666 » Fri Jan 15, 2021 11:09 am

If you go onto the NLN table on Football Web Pages at https://www.footballwebpages.co.uk/nati ... /predicted

This is their predicted final table and at the bottom of the page are the predicted match results.

I'm sure not even the most optimistic fan would have said a 4th place finish is still realistic. Oh and York to only finish 9th!

Not based on how we are playing, but equally we are only a quarter of the way through the league season. Win our games in hand on second placed Chester and we would go above them.

It's not unrealistic but it is also not particularly likely. We don't appear to have the cohesion needed to win that many games on the bounce and I don't think the way this season is playing out helps that either.

I might be wrong but also think Armstrong teams have form for finishing seasons stronger than they start them.

The most fanciful aspect of that table is our 11 home wins

Minus 85 goal difference for Blyth!!

That's Fort William standard...

Away record predicts only 3 away defeats. By my reckoning we have already had them at Fylde Brackley and Farsley so that would mean being undefeated in next 15 away games!

I think it is clear that whoever predicted these results was probably working from home and while they were not looking, their 5 year old child (who was beng home schooled) messed around with the Spreadsheet before Mum or Dad noticed. It is complete rubbish but funny all the same.

Will be based on expected goals i assume. We've only really lost by the odd goal at home this season and on top of that we put 6 past Blyth so our home goals scored won't look too bad compared to goals conceded, which then gives you a statistical chance of winning more matches. Then away from home we have put 4 past Guiseley, 3 past Curzon, 2 past Alfreton. Up to Farsley our only losses away from home were Fylde 1-0 and then Brackley 2-0 who both had the better home records in the division and again only by the odd goal so will probably give us a statistical likelihood of beating most people away from home at the moment.

I have a spreadsheet that works in a similar way and it's still predicting we'll finish 4th based on expected goals. Always need to wait until atleast the 20 game mark before they kick out any sort of relevant predictions. Not that I hope its wrong

Unbeaten for the rest of the season and they have predicted every result to be either be 1-0 wins, 0-0 or 1-all draws

Blyth and Curzon relegated.
Does anyone think there will actually be relegation from our level this season?

There will be if South Shields get their way - saying you should use 46 games over 2 seasons to get a final table

They also say no relegation and increase of number of clubs to 24 at NLN of you read their proposal.

True.

I had read it. Not sure what I was thinking of.
