Will be surprised if AA does not try and bring another wide player in, he mentioned this in his last interview, not sure if Wrightson has got fixed up but the lad we had in a couple of practice games could be a possibility.

Wrightson has signed for West Auckland so you can count that one out, also AA wasn’t interested.

Thought we played some brilliant stuff yesterday and Prescot Cables had no right to be in the game (think the final shot count for us was 28 on goal). The first goal conceded was poor from Hatfield & Donawa who both rushed out leaving Storey & Hunt isolated, and whilst at the time I was convinced Hunt’s challenge was sheer lunacy, having watched it back it’s clear he is anticipating a cross which he is attempting to block and their lad very cleverly plants his foot to the right for the contact. An absolute stonewall penalty, however I can see why it happened from someone with so much experience.

Charman was fantastic too, O’Neill esque. Rivers also outstanding. Special mention to Saltmer too who pulled off those 2 penalty saves to win us the tie.

From a financial point of view, yesterday was important. £3,375 for winning the tie, and a guaranteed £1,875 from the next round just for taking part. Also gives us another tie to receive 40% of the proceeds from.

Finally, QuakerTV, simply outstanding. Excellent quality, commentary and highlights during half-time and at full-time. The different camera angles were excellent and definitely gives a different point of view of the match. I’m absolutely astounded that it is volunteers running this type of coverage at such a high standard.
I think on balance for me there were more positives than negatives but only just. I have to say I am really disappointed to hear in Darren's interview we did not prepare for the possibility of penalties. That for me is piss poor preparation.
Wow.

“Only just for more positive than negatives”.

That was literally our first competitive match in 6 months, and we dominated.

In regards to penalties, they are an absolute lottery. With the limited footage available at this level, let alone 2 leagues below, there is very limited preparation which you can actually do. I’m sure the players practice penalties in training regularly.

Question is 28 shots/ attempts on goal and only scoring 2 positive or negative? It is a matter of opinion. Regards the penalties listen to the interview, he admits we didn't even know who would be taking our penalties until after the final whistle that was my point, that is poor management which ever way you look at it. I didn't make any comment about whether or not the players had practiced taking them beforehand or not.

Seems we had not even considered the possibility of penalties. Rather strange but perhaps the management did not want to put any doubt into the players minds that they thought it may be necessary.

Really? I am not convinced that penalty practice is that regular. They might do some competitions as a bit of fun from time to time, and maybe a more serious attempt on the days leading up to a cup game but I doubt it features that regularly.

See again I've never known any club know it's takers until after a final whistle. They might throw some subs on near the time if there is a specialist on the bench but not much beyond that.

I always thought players volunteer for them at the time. This is consistent with what pro players have said publicly as well. I'm sure Micky Gray has always been annoyed at Danny Dichio for not stepping up when he was a striker back in 1999.

Regardless, some people will honestly moan at anything. It’s absolutely embarrassing.

I’d hate to see their reactions if we lost. We were by far the better side, it was our first competitive match in 6 months, and we won.

To call the management of penalties as “piss poor” is a gross over-reaction (however it was an over-sight; even though DH selected the right players to win the shoot-out). I am certainly not saying the management team are immune to criticism, but to focus on that, and call the management of it piss poor, is just negative (especially given other comments within this thread by the same poster).

Mark Cooper did the same. It was on a “who feels confident to score” basis.

I agree I should not have used the term "piss poor," so apologise, but I do still believe it was an "over sight" as you put it, so that was a negative for me from yesterday. The fact we created 28 shots on goal is good. Whether only scoring from 2 of them is also good, is for you and others to decide. I know where I stand on that.
