Solihull Replay Postponed
Solihull Replay Postponed
From official website :-
Frozen pitch
Following a pitch inspection by a local referee, tonight's Buildbase FA Trophy replay between Darlington and Solihull has been postponed, as several parts of the pitch (including the six yard boxes) are frozen, and there isn't enough positivity in the forecast for those particular parts to thaw out in time for the kick off.
No new date has been set for the fixture.

Re: Solihull Replay Postponed
May well be a blessing in disguise. Hopefully we can get a training session in tonight instead
Re: Solihull Replay Postponed
It seems very premature, the temperature is supposed to rise quite a bit by this evening. Even in the last hour or so the frost has lifted. A bit annoying too as i'm unlikely be about for the replay.
Re: Solihull Replay Postponed
It’s a gamble though. I’d rather us not have to pay for Solihull’s travel for a wasted trip
Re: Solihull Replay Postponed
True. Refs call anyway isn't it?
The temperature is due to rise bizarrely over the course of today. 10 degrees overnight in December is just wrong. A shame they can't just shuffle it back 24 hours but of course it's getting too close to the weekend games.
Presumably it'll have to be played soon because it's not all that long until the next round.
Re: Solihull Replay Postponed
Don’t suppose either AA or Happy Harry from Solihull are heartbroken about this with big games for both clubs at the weekend. Some might say this is why the covers weren’t used .
Looks like the replay will be on the Wednesday before the next round is played on the 11 Jan.

Maybe, we are due to play Guiseley away on that Tuesday, so maybe the Guiseley game will be rearranged.Emdubya wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 1:23 pmDon’t suppose either AA or Happy Harry from Solihull are heartbroken about this with big games for both clubs at the weekend. Some might say this is why the covers weren’t used .

Pretty sure the cup match will take priority. Presumably if it cannot be played on 8th of January due to bad weather then we will have to play it on Saturday 11th on the day of the second round.Darlopartisan wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 1:37 pmMaybe, we are due to play Guiseley away on that Tuesday, so maybe the Guiseley game will be rearranged.Emdubya wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 1:23 pmDon’t suppose either AA or Happy Harry from Solihull are heartbroken about this with big games for both clubs at the weekend. Some might say this is why the covers weren’t used .

Re: Solihull Replay Postponed
I think the fa may even call off our league game with Gloucester city on the 4th January from our time in the lower league's if I remember correctly the fa competitions are given priority.

Re: Solihull Replay Postponed
Why would they call off a scheduled Saturday game rather than a re-arranged midweek game?

Re: Solihull Replay Postponed
Not unheard to play it on the date of the next round.
So it could be played on the 11th January and then the 2nd round game a midweek after that.

Re: Solihull Replay Postponed
Personally I’d prefer to get this done midweek and the potential Harrogate game on a Saturday, as it’d likely attract a healthy crowd. Solihull won’t.
Re: Solihull Replay Postponed
Well it does give more time for the lads on our injury list to get back some fitness and build up understanding with the rest of squad. Nice to see Lambert's loan extended as he gives us another option. Also the new lad can do a bit of settling in. Whilst another cup run would be welcome, would rather see us take points off York & Spenny.

Re: Solihull Replay Postponed
Game should never been postponed, it was very mild by the time kickoff should have taken place. The local ref dropped a bit of a clanger.
Re: Solihull Replay Postponed
If it is played on that day then we've got a hell of a long midweek trip to Boston United to look forward to .super_les_mcjannet wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 4:00 pmNot unheard to play it on the date of the next round.

The referee needs a new crystal ball?Darlo_Pete wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 10:07 pmGame should never been postponed, it was very mild by the time kickoff should have taken place. The local ref dropped a bit of a clanger.
Better the game called off early, than leaving it late, Solihull travelling and Darlington being left to pay for their travel (and potentially hotel costs) for a wasted trip.

Agree the more risk would be to have taken the chance and see if the pitch would be ok. Under the circs the referee made the right decision.D_F_C wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2019 1:13 pmNo he didn't.Darlo_Pete wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 10:07 pmGame should never been postponed, it was very mild by the time kickoff should have taken place. Re: Solihull Replay Postponed
I can see why the decision was made. It's a bit frustrating though, the forecast was pretty clear how it would thaw out. But we'd be more annoyed if he called it off later in the evening and we had to foot their travel bill.
Re: Solihull Replay Postponed
It worked in our favour. I would rather go into this run of fixtures having a week off rather than having a tough midweek game and picking up a couple of injuries.
Re: Solihull Replay Postponed
Agree 100%.With 5 games in two weeks another game with Solihull Giants is the last thing we needed.
