Osagi Bascome and Justin Donawa
Have gone on international duty and will miss Saturday and the FA cup replay.
We are really down to the bare bones, must be difficult for Alun as these guys currently are not starters so we would literally signing players to fill the bench - but I think the time has come to get a new striker at least to help the lads out.

I’m sure the club are aware, and will be looking to add players.
However, they have to be of a good enough standard, be available and be within our budget.

Really unlucky timing. Will have to be Academy 2nd years for Brackley and Walsall

Re: Osagi Bascome and Justin Donawa
Some of the extra cash generated recently should be used to strengthen our squad, this situation illustrates how stretched we are. And before anyone jumps down my throat I said SOME of the extra, not all..

In AA I trust he can find a nugget from Boro or Sunderland, Leeds god knows to get on the bench for Saturday and provide cover on Wednesday. However imagine the story if his young lad gets on, plays well and scores? Now that would make the news!

Walsall signings prohibited already covered on the other thread?eddie-rowles wrote:In AA I trust he can find a nugget from Boro or Sunderland, Leeds god knows to get on the bench for Saturday and provide cover on Wednesday. Re: Osagi Bascome and Justin Donawa
I think I saw a £100k figure on here brought in through the cup run so more than enough for Alan to strengthen the team I would have thought.
Re: Osagi Bascome and Justin Donawa
Only a fraction of the cup run cash would be available as there are long-term commitments which also need the money. Best we could hope for is to get O'Neill back or a similar loanee to bolster the squad. Would take time and match experience for any incoming players, neither of which we have got.quakersfan wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2019 9:13 amI think I saw a £100k figure on here brought in through the cup run so more than enough for Alan to strengthen the team I would have thought.
Re: Osagi Bascome and Justin Donawa
Surely not? That would suggest the next seasons season ticket money would all go on paying off debt and not paying the team. Boost the budget circa £100k would be needed just the balance the books with NO team strengthening.jjljks wrote:Only a fraction of the cup run cash would be available as there are long-term commitments which also need the money. Re: Osagi Bascome and Justin Donawa
The thing is, we have an entirely ordinary squad size, but it's stretched because we have 3 long term injuries and 2 on international duty. We're still paying these guys (although i appreciate we are compensated for international duty). So short term loans, likely with little to no financial burden, will be the most likely for us. Hopefully Boro look favourably to us after successful spells for O'Neil and of course Pears recently, and want to send us a player or two.
Re: Osagi Bascome and Justin Donawa
Not to sure but i think for the replay the players have had to be a squad player for the first game .as o'Neil wasn't he won't be able to play even if we could get him.
Maybe i,m wrong on that.

Re: Osagi Bascome and Justin Donawa
All players must have been eligible to play in the original tie in order to play in a replayed or postponed match; however a player who has been suspended according to the disciplinary procedures under the Rules of The Association may play in a postponed or replayed match after the term of his suspension has expired
Re: Osagi Bascome and Justin Donawa
Mixed bag for our lads in Mexico. Bermuda lost 2-1 after Mexico scored in 90+3 minutes.
Osagi credited with an assist but picked up a yellow card on 65 mns & then subbed.
Justin played for 81 mns then subbed.

Only losing 2-1 to Mexico is a very good effort for a small country like Bermuda. Hope our boys return fit and well and can play a part for us on Saturday.

Re: Osagi Bascome and Justin Donawa
Sounds like a creditable performance from both against top opposition. I suspect they both might make it into the starting XI at the weekend.

Re: Osagi Bascome and Justin Donawa
Could be a tactical master stroke and they are on the bench tonight. Bascome delivers a free kick for a Donowa winner? We can but dream!
Re: Osagi Bascome and Justin Donawa
We are 1-0 down with 15 minutes to play. A helicopter lands on the rugby pitch next door and Osagi and Justin get out. They leg it to the bench where they are immediately brought on and both play a hand in a 2-1 fightback.

22 - 1. That's a hell of a fightback.

Re: Osagi Bascome and Justin Donawa
I doubt we could have afforded a helicopter.
Re: Osagi Bascome and Justin Donawa
So could they have played today or not? Did they have a choice in the matter? Mate watching BT says they opted to go to Mexico ?

Re: Osagi Bascome and Justin Donawa
We had no legitimate reason not to let them go. If there was another international involved then we could have had the match postponed
Anyway, we sorely missed them & hope they can do the business for us when we play Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday. Will be interesting to see how many of the 3006 give us their support in the future.

Re: Osagi Bascome and Justin Donawa
If club didn't release players or players didn't go, then their country can get FIFA to ban them from playing for their club. It's rarely used, but power is there
Re: Osagi Bascome and Justin Donawa
Not only did we not have the option to do so, i wouldn't think it'd be right to have robbed them of the chance to play against Mexico, in Mexico. Regardless of what our game meant to us, that's the game of their lives I would think. I'm happy for the pair of them, and i'm sure it'll only have benefitted them as footballers.
Re: Osagi Bascome and Justin Donawa
I'm not even sure it would have made that much difference to the outcome last night. It was an out-and-out centre forward that we were crying out for last night. Someone with a bit of presence to really trouble their defence, hold the ball up, bring others into play and score goals. A bit like Ty O'Neill really.

Re: Osagi Bascome and Justin Donawa
Still totally baffled by Woodgate’s stance on this, exactly what has been the benefit to Boro of recalling him at short notice. We know he is their player but surely he could have looked at it from the players point of view which surely would have given him more experience for his development.LoidLucan wrote:I'm not even sure it would have made that much difference to the outcome last night. Re: Osagi Bascome and Justin Donawa
I don't think Woodgate really knows what he's doing. Boro mates think he's absolutely useless, they just won't turn on him because of his connections to the club. Don't know how long that'll last, they're in a ridiculous position for the team they have.QUAKERMAN2 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 10:54 amStill totally baffled by Woodgate’s stance on this, exactly what has been the benefit to Boro of recalling him at short notice. We know he is their player but surely he could have looked at it from the players point of view which surely would have given him more experience for his development.LoidLucan wrote:I'm not even sure it would have made that much difference to the outcome last night. Re: Osagi Bascome and Justin Donawa
Gibson is pulling right back on the spending now and in the future Boro will be relying more on bargain basement players and homegrown. O'Neill is still training with the first team but it remains to be seen if he gets time on the pitch. In years gone by Boro would have had loads of first team options despite injuries and would never have recalled a youngster in this way. Times are probably changing there.
