Re: Signings
Hopefully Jameson will sign and that will be the goalkeeper no.1 position filled. I am sure the lure of first team football will be a big factor. I don't think it is wise or financially viable to have two experienced first team keepers with our reduced budget especially with the option of the loan market. Unless AA spots a young kid who thinks he can develop.

Apparently are youth keeper was very well thought of by TW, so perhaps he could be one for the future and probably on the bench regularly as back up hopefully for Jameson.

Re: Signings
York are also saying “just waiting for a player who returns from holiday today “ so it could be Jameson following Maguire to York.
Re: Signings
Personally I wouldn’t be gutted if Jameson didn’t sign. There’s plenty of decent keepers out there to loan if required. It’s the striker that we are desperate for. Could also do with some staff

Re: Signings
Can't begrudge him his shot at professional football if he goes to York. Is Hemming still on the books at Boro? I don't think they've released their retained list yet. I'd be straight in there if possible.
If they keep him, maybe they'd be open to a seasons loan.

Re: Signings
Has Jameson become a decent keeper since he left us?
"At a meeting held at the Grammar School on Friday last - Mr Phillip Wood M.A., in the chair - it was resolved to form an Association Football Club for Darlington and neighbourhood. The opinions of those present were so unanimous as to the desirability of this step, that a committee was formed to complete the organisation of the club, and Mr Craven, 17, Garden Street, was appointed secretary pro tem." - The Northern Echo, Monday 23rd July 1883
Re: Signings
The few games against Darlo he played well, had got his confidence back. As has been mention we have had a couple of good loan keepers so we hopefully won't have a problem filling the position and the young lad in the academy looked good in the few games I went to see last year to develop for the future and as back up.

Re: Signings
He always was a decent keeper.
IMO he was very good in the Evostik and competent in the NLN, even when he started making mistakes. Half of the fan base had an exaggerated dislike of his abilities.
It's probably likely that he has improved since then, can't see any other reason why York would be in for him.
If you think that we signed Bartlett and at the time he was an upgrade on Jameson, now York consider Jameson to be an upgrade on Bartlett, we can be confident he's better now.
As it happens, I think he'll sign for York anyway.

I'm guessing Dale Hopson. Has links with AA through Blyth.quakersfan wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2019 4:25 amAn exciting forward and proven goal scorer announced today/tomorrow.

They get turned over by part time clubs every other week. 6 points more than us wasnt it with a million pound playing budget.

This. He was never as bad as he was made out to be. Problem he'd have coming back here is first mistake and the know all's would be straight back on his case.Ghost_Of_1883 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2019 8:55 amHe always was a decent keeper.

IF being the operative wordGhost_Of_1883 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2019 10:33 amSo you're pondering Nicholson's future because a fan guessed a name?
It's a discussion point - hypothetically could we have a squad with both Hopson and Nicholson?
For what it's worth, Nicholson is a good player at this level and I'm looking forward to seeing how he may perform in a team set up by Armstrong.

Re: Signings
One thing York can offer Jameson that we can’t is a goalkeeper coach, he’s still young so he needs a coach for him to progress in his abilities.
Re: Signings
The biggest issue with Jameson is that he was mentally exhausted and we, incorrectly, didn't protect him enough and take him out of the firing line for a couple of weeks when we needed to as we didn't have a viable back-up.HarryCharltonsCat wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2019 10:00 amThis. He just needed a rest, get his confidence back, and keep on improving. He was excellent in the Glue League and the NLN for us.
Re: Signings
Didn't we have Ed Wilsniecki or whatever he was called? He played a couple of games and then Bartlett came in who was on a different level to both of them, so they were both moved on?Beano wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2019 2:24 pmThe biggest issue with Jameson is that he was mentally exhausted and we, incorrectly, didn't protect him enough and take him out of the firing line for a couple of weeks when we needed to as we didn't have a viable back-up.HarryCharltonsCat wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2019 10:00 amThis. Had Bartlett not come in I wonder if Jamieson would have eventually returned to the team after a rest. Problem is, Gray always brought in the best he could and if that meant moving someone else out so be it, so once Bartlett was in there was no place for Jamieson.

Echo this morning says AA hoping to sign a few before he goes on holiday tomorrow. Nothing mentioned on site yet so we may have to wait.

Re: Signings
Ultimately Nicholson was brought in on a previous wage structure that has been cut 3 times since he signed. We all know TW had a fairly decent budget last summer and decided to spend it across a really small squad leading to inflated wages for certain players.
If AA feels he can replace Nicholson and probably have a significant amount left over to put towards another player then I’m all for it.

Re: Signings
Seems slightly odd considering we took the option on his contract only a couple of weeks ago. I wonder if we were expecting another side to come in with an offer for him and get the benefit of a fee from him.
Personally think it's a shame. Think he would have been good for another 10-15 goals a season playing in that No.10 spot in a good team. But he will have no doubt been a big earner in our wage structure. Hopefully we have a good replacement lined up and signing soon which keeps the positive feeling of the summer going.

Re: Signings
AA in the Echo this morning. Basically saying he will be looking to off-load more following Nicholson’s departure. Players on big contracts that he feels he can bring in two for one for.
Also mentioned that Dale Hopson is a target for us.
Missed out on Connor Oliver too who has decided to go to Gateshead from Blyth.
