Yes I agree, I can't understand this fixation with signing up a manager that has had some previous connection with this club. We need the best candidate available.

Re: Who do we fancy then?
An interesting candidate as a UEFA A badge holder and former award winning boss of Middlesbrough College academy. Good knowledge of the Northern League circuit having saved a few clubs from relegation. Former Darlo player and popular with many fans on the sister site "Tin Shed". Currently coaches in Norway. I suspect an outsider but somebody who certainly caught my attention at the last application round. Ticks a lot of boxes and knows how to work on a budget. Just hope we get a decent number of good applicants that meet the criteria to give us a wide choice.Wiseacre wrote: ↑Sat Apr 27, 2019 10:35 amAndy Toman is an interesting choice - what is his experience of management, did he do a bit at Hartlepool? I'm not sure that musical chairs with other managers at this level is a good idea but if we're after a local bloke the field looks a bit bare. Toman lives up north presumably but what's his record like?
Re: Who do we fancy then?
Regarding a woman manager just think Theresa may could be out of a job soon just imagine her soundbites play offs mean play offs Darlington FC will be leaving the national League north on march 29th if not I will fly to Brussels and seek an extension. Further failure could see her just about managing.
Re: Who do we fancy then?
Gateshead have just dismissed assistant manager Ian Watson.
Feasible candidate?

Re: Who do we fancy then?
Absolutely no rush to sign anyone. I am sure that lessons have been learned in appointing former players and I believe we will get a strong field of candidates despite our limited resources at present. There are exciting opportunities ahead at BM or the SV and a good mix of signings and loanees & with the academy to work on I am feeling optimistic. Not ruling out a player manager role either which might suit a former league player, surely our luck is due to change?

Re: Who do we fancy then?
Yes as assistant to ben clark. A easy going bloke, could run a academy, local and would bring a few ex gateshead lass who loved playing for him and working with him as a coach before he became manager. Mike williamson could follow themHarrytheQuaker wrote:NoAlfie wrote:Gateshead have just dismissed assistant manager Ian Watson.

Re: Who do we fancy then?
Wouldn't be a surprise to see a Clark/Watson application already winging its way.

Personally I don't have a problem with women players but I don't think fa rules would allow this, from Gateshead or elsewhere.

Let's make it even easier for him & move back to Heritage Parkshildonlad wrote: ↑Sat Apr 27, 2019 2:12 pmHa ha have you experience the shildon shopping experienceVodka_Vic wrote:I believe that you can get to Wolsingham from Darlo by going via Shildon. He could pop into his academy on the way back home and fill up at that cheap Jet petrol station whilst stocking up on Londis lager. We could also do training on his indoor pitches and then take the players on team bonding sessions at Shildon shops to show the footballers how lucky they are to be in their jobs.

Very professional way to say to get sacked, that club sounds toxic at the momentshildonlad wrote:Ben clark sacked by e-mail at gateshead. Such a nice guy as a player, coach and manager. A good fit for darlingtons level for sure

Re: Who do we fancy then?
Thats a understatement. Dont think a sacking by text is legal as well as having a director who was in charge of a liquidated club less than 2 year ago, nigel harrop (ilkeston)murtonquaker wrote:Very professional way to say to get sacked, that club sounds toxic at the momentshildonlad wrote:Ben clark sacked by e-mail at gateshead. Re: Who do we fancy then?
Don't think it will be Alun Armstrong. He's taking a few days off then speaking to his board/players next week, so even if he resigns he'll have missed the boat regarding applying for us. Referred to the board as 'Them upstairs', so no love lost though.

To be fair nothing stops people applying for a job while still in work, if fact most sensible do if it looks like your employer is going to change the goal posts, so to speak.

Re: Who do we fancy then?
Yep, can't be having an us and them attitude, we're all in this together.
He may of course be taking a few days off to send his CVs out.
Re: Who do we fancy then?
Sounds a bit like Armstrong may be going to use our vacancy as a bargaining tool to get what he wants from the Blyth board.
If so not the sort of person we want.

Re: Who do we fancy then?
Update on recruitment process
https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/ ... e-manager/
Talks about one female applicant. Also a north-east football manager- currently not employed- who will be helping the board - wonder if that could be Steve McLaren who I believe has been seen at BM from time to time.
All in all seems to be a very thorough and professional approach, especially for a volunteer run club at our level.
