Fuck me, it is the silly season.
Going to be a long 3 months.

Re: Feethams or the Arena
How about a poll:
Darlington FC or Darlington 1883. I bet some daft bastards would debate it too.

Should we try and sign Messi or Ronaldo?

Dial A.
Re: Feethams or the Arena
I'd re-sign Tino Asprilla.

Re: Feethams or the Arena
Feethams we can all get a good view from upstairs in those houses bit tricky for the players running round the streets though.

Are we not dialling H? Some genuinely would...Ghost_Of_1883 wrote:Dial A.

Has to be the Arena, as Feethams was a dump when we left it, although the Arena is probably a dump by now.

It looking a bit sad these days, I saw a comment on Sunderland’s forum saying it looks abandoned from the outside!Darlo_Pete wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2019 6:16 pmHas to be the Arena, as Feethams was a dump when we left it, although the Arena is probably a dump by now.

Yeh when I was up there the other week, it looked in a pretty poor condition, rust on the metal work, etc.quaker4life wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2019 6:21 pmIt looking a bit sad these days, I saw a comment on Sunderland’s forum saying it looks abandoned from the outside!Darlo_Pete wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2019 6:16 pmHas to be the Arena, as Feethams was a dump when we left it, although the Arena is probably a dump by now.

Re: Feethams or the Arena
Mam and dad went to a silver wedding doo there about 5 year back in the platinum lounge. It had gone from something out of a cruise ship when 2st open to a right dive. They said there was even odd taps in the toilets and broken toilets. Looks like the rugby club are letting it go to rack and ruinDarlo_Pete wrote:Has to be the Arena, as Feethams was a dump when we left it, although the Arena is probably a dump by now.

I went to the bar at the Arena and it looked ok, strangely the toilets were exactly the same as when we were at the Arena. I don't think DMP have any money to spend on the Arena for maintenance, do doubt they'll get an interest free loan from the Council.shildonlad wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2019 6:32 pmMam and dad went to a silver wedding doo there about 5 year back in the platinum lounge. Wonder if it will pass the structure tests to keep the safety certificate.Darlo_Pete wrote:I went to the bar at the Arena and it looked ok, strangely the toilets were exactly the same as when we were at the Arena. Re: Feethams or the Arena
Well it has to be the Arena as there are too many houses on the pitch at Feethams these days.
However, if it we could roll back even to 2004 then feethams.

Re: Feethams or the Arena
Anyone who answers the arena for this wants their head checking.

Re: Feethams or the Arena
It's a tough one. Feethams was a traditional stadium, in the heart of the town and was quite appropriate for a club of our size. However, the idea of the Arena wasn't wrong it was just way too much too soon. Feethams was simply patched up and with health and safety requirements becoming stricter at some point eventually it would have needed replacing. However, 25,000 from the off was too much and the age old argument of maybe a 10,000 capacity arena would have probably being sufficient to begin with. You never know maybe in a few years we may require it's use again, once we are in a position to justify it.
"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"

I tend to disagree, had we stayed there then the West Stand would have likely have been closed down/demolished by now but the Polam Lane End and Tin Shed (despite needing some repair work at the time we left) were OK.
And I don't think there's any possibility of leaving Blackwell Meadows in the near future.

Re: Feethams or the Arena
Had the club stayed at Feethams development at the Polem end would have been difficult due to the presence of the Victorian sewer (which caused the Quaker Centre to be moved from it's intended to final location) and development of the West Stand limited due to the proximity of the housing on that side and issues with intrusion of light.
In fact as I remember it the East Stand was scaled back due to problems with ground loading.
However, all possible with the right will and enough money. Although there would have been no glory for George in a redevelopment of Feethams.
I don't come to Darlington anymore but I understand that there is housing there now ?
