Winter Olympics

Post by Darlo_Pete » Thu Feb 08, 2018 8:00 am

Really looking forward to the Winter Olympics that start tomorrow. Hopefully we'll pick up a record haul of medals, as have a good few prospects for medals.

You have to admire the Tongan flag bearer.

[quote="Darlo_Pete"]Really looking forward to the Winter Olympics that start tomorrow.

Wish I could say the same Pete.
Sadly I can't abide any sport whatsoever (except football) and turn the lot off when it comes on TV. I wish I could understand what everyone else sees in sport and wonder what's different about me. Wish I could enjoy it too.
It's football or nothing and it has to be Darlington at that.

Fair enough. I've always been a keen skier, in fact I used to do slalom racing! So naturally I love the winter olympics, prefer them to the summer olympics, which are too predictable.

Elise Christie sets a new olympic record in her 500m short track quarter final, looking good for a medal, perhaps even a gold.

Elise has now made it to the final and qualified 4th out of 5 which isn't great, but she's still in with a chance of a medal.

Elise Christie is robbed of a medal, as she is brought down in the final and ends up finishing 4th out of 5. Really feel sorry for her, as she's had a rough time in the olympics up to now. Let's hope she can recover and get medals in the 1000m & 1500m.

I see our Skeleton team are causing a stir with their new aerodynamic suits, just sour grapes if you ask me. The men's skeleton starts at 01-00 tonight, worth staying up for I think.

Fantastic achievement as Dom Parsons wins our first ever medal in the Men's Skeleton and our first ever medal in this event. Thought he'd blown it before the Latvian went from 2nd overall before the final run down to 4th.

What a fantastic day yesterday was, watching those last runs of the skeleton, there were certainly screams in my household when we saw a 4 in the bottom left hand of the screen. You have to watch it to understand. Enjoy winter sport at it's best, love Amy Williams and her reactions.

Just thought I'd add a comment so it doesn't look like Pete is having a conversation with himself....

I feel gutted for Elise Christie as she crashes and then is yellow carded out of the short track 1000m.How much bad luck has she had? At least it's looking good for the men and women's curling teams, as they both have an excellent chance of making it through to last 4.

Fantastic performance by the Ladies GB Curling Team to beat Canada and guarantee a semi-final. The Men's Curling Team blew it against the USA and now face a play-off game against Switzerland at midnight tonight.

The Men's Curling Team blow it in the 9th end and lose the end by 5 stones. No way back now going into the 10th end losing 9 to 5.

Gutted for Dave Ryding coming 9th in the Men's Slalom, I thought he had a real possibility of winning a medal, especially after Marcel Hircher went out in the first run.

Well what a waste of time for the GB Curlers, as they lose out on a medal. Still a record haul for a GB team to a winter olympics.
