Re: Darlington FC V Chorley Match thread
I think the playing conditions will even things up and give us more of a chance than if the pitch was in a good condition.

Re: Darlington FC V Chorley Match thread
Just heard Rays interview with Tommy and Tom Portas is out injured, real pity as he was nailed on to start.

66’ Saunders heads wide after Styche had bamboozled a defender with a few step-overs and whipped the ball in. 2-1

Concern for Quakers: Pears is down, Walker clattered into him when chasing a pass. The Chorley striker was offside anyway, but Pears wasn’t to know and dived at his feet. DFC have youth team goalkeeper Bancroft on the bench. 2-1

70' | Currently a lengthy stoppage in play as Pears is receiving treatment. Seems to be okay!

Pears is able to continue after lengthy treatment. Looks to have sustained a facial wound, a nice little memento of his Darlington debut. 2-1

Chorley level for the second time, this time equalising on 75 minutes after a low cross from the left, either Walker or O’Keefe got the final touch on it. 2-2

RED CARD: Chorley’s Marcus Carver sent off on 80 minutes for a second bookable offence, 60 seconds after receiving his first booking. Only came on after 53 minutes. 2-2

Re: Darlington FC V Chorley Match thread
Double-change for Darlington, Gillies and Syers for Wheatley and Thompson. Might've switched to 4-4-2 here, to try and make the most of having an extra man on the pitch. 2-2

Re: Darlington FC V Chorley Match thread
I suppose that would have been deemed a good point...if we had picked up 3 last week. Another 6-pointer next week, vs Leamington, but it's ok because it's an 'easier' game....
"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"
Re: Darlington FC V Chorley Match thread
You'd regard that as an okay point if not for the wider context of our ongoing abysmal form.
Alfredo won at a canter v Leamington today. Massive game next week.

Wright apologists' bingo -
When will we hear:
1) Would have taken a point beforehand.
2) We're improving.
3) If we play like that against the lesser teams, we'll be fine.

Re: Darlington FC V Chorley Match thread
Part of me is reasonably content with today - we played pretty well against a good side. Mills is improving, Styche is a proper striker, and we played some good football. However, part of me is very despondent - another game without a win, another game where we could have taken more points and didn't. And if it wasn't from a great save right near the end we would have lost. Oh and a poor crowd to top it off.
We have to pick up 3 points next week. And we really need to get a striker in. Saunders is a willing runner, but he's not ready for regular football at this level.

Re: Darlington FC V Chorley Match thread
It's still alarming how easy we concede goals, even when getting our noses in front. We give teams far too much room in and around the box and often make a mistake in defence. But at least we battled well enough today against a decent side, a draw was a fair result. Next Saturday is crucial to TW proving he's got what it takes. Coming after the failure to beat an appalling Alfreton side, there can be no excuses if we fail to take three points. Time's running out for hard luck stories and one win in 12 games under TW is dire whatever the circumstances.

Moved out of a relegation spot for now, but Telford and Gainsborough, have 3 games in hand. As others have said, it's a massive game next week, which we can't afford to lose.

More than happy with a point against a very good Chorley side.

Re: Darlington FC V Chorley Match thread
We are still too fragile at the back and needing to score 3 most weeks to win games is not acceptable.I hate the 352 formation having Thommo as a left wing back and just wish we would revert to a back 4 with 2 defensive midfielder or I fail to see us ever keeping a clean sheet.Good game today though, notching between the teams, badly need another striker to partner Reece as Mills not the answer.Get Portas in the team asap and let Thommo revert back to his normal position as he looked good today coming forward But for gods sake scrap the 3 at the back setup.

I hate watching teams play 3 at the back if they're not drilled beyond all comprehension. Nobody knows who is marking who.QUAKERMAN2 wrote:We are still too fragile at the back and needing to score 3 most weeks to win games is not acceptable.I hate the 352 formation having Thommo as a left wing back and just wish we would revert to a back 4 with 2 defensive midfielder or I fail to see us ever keeping a clean sheet.Good game today though, notching between the teams, badly need another striker to partner Reece as Mills not the answer.Get Portas in the team asap and let Thommo revert back to his normal position as he looked good today coming forward But for gods sake scrap the 3 at the back setup.

Not happy with a point at all!
The game was there to be won in last 15 against 10 men but Wright cost us a win in my opinion. He took off the two players, either of which could have been man of the match, but more importantly our two most creative players. Not only that he went 1 up front and played Saunders wide with Gillies. Seriously.... desperate for a win, last 15, let's go 1 up front instead of 2 against 10 men.
His decisions are a joke at times.
Agree, we desperately need support for Styche and if he gets injured we are knackered!

Possibility that a striker may be brought in next week.

Re: Darlington FC V Chorley Match thread
Despite having an extra man we looked on the ropes from that point onwards. Huge difference compared to last couple of seasons where we’d close out games with unrelenting pressure towards the tinshed. Hugely disappointed, but before the game I’d take a draw against a much higher placed team.
Re: Darlington FC V Chorley Match thread
As an aside, surprised to see how close curzon ashton are to the relegation pack
