Darlington FC V Spennymoor match thread

Post by Darlopartisan » Mon Aug 28, 2017 6:28 am

I think this will be our toughest test to date, our season has faulted since Browns injury hopefully he's back today and we can move Ferguson back to midfield.
Caton and Ferguson played some excellent football in the first 3 games of the season, that for me is what changed in our attacking game when Brown was injured.
Spenny are having an excellent start to the season and a much changed side to the one we used to batter in the Evostik. We will need to be at our best to beat them.

A tough test indeed - and the result could go either way.

We tend to play better football against better opponents, opponents who want to play and have a go against us. Spennymoor meet this criteria, so for this reason I'm hoping that we can raise our game enough to beat them.

I think they'll tire in the second half, after playing 3 games in less than 6 days, is bound to tell. A narrow win for me.

Just seen the spennymoor team thumbing a lift at the service station at junction 59 on the A1. Fortunately for them a Royston bus stopped and picked them up with their 28 fans on board.

Wouldn't mind seeing 5 in midfield today. Might seem slightly negative at home but with Anderson, Hall, Foley, Ramshaw, Chandler and Henry they have players in midfield who can hurt us. I think if we keep them quiet there's not too much threat.

I'd like to see us line up.

Bartlett

Marrs - Brown - Collins - Galbraith

Gillies - Scott - Turnbull - Syers - Ferguson

Sounds like there is little atmosphere considering it's supposed to be a derby.

Ferguson has a shot, comfortably saved by their keeper. Free-kick now on the edge of the spenny box.

Beck goes very close with a header, great save by their keeper.

The fans need to get behind the team, it's as quiet as a church.

373 from Spennymoor, meaning less than 1,700 home fans for a local match on a sunny bank holiday Monday. That does not bode well for future home games.

Having said that, it seemed like there was more than that in there today.

I wouldn't be too pessimistic. There seems to be lots of people away on holiday this past week with it being the last bank holiday before Christmas

I suspect a lot of fans may have been away or had family commitments

Think spennymoor edged it, should of maybe won it with the 2 chances at the death, 373 spennymoor fans, a few more than that, as a few paid into the Darlington side who don't like standing behind goal, including me an another 4.

Spennymoor battered us first half, we battered them for most of the second. Spennymoor looked a very good side in the 1st half - full of pace and movement. We put them under pressure in the 2nd half, and they started to crack a bit. We should have had a penalty too if it wasn't for an incredibly inept piece of refereeing.

Slightly disappointing crowd considering it was a bank holiday. Spennymoor aren't the most appealing of opposition, but I would have thought we could have had a few more. Saying that, it was still 2 or 3 deep standing on flat standing - we can't expect people to pay £14 for half a view.

Hopefully we can carry that second half performance into the next few games
