Name change

Post by poppyfield » Fri Oct 04, 2013 2:26 pm

Just a thought, with the agreement of the rugby club, what about changing the name from Blackwell Medows to something else? I am thinking sponcership money here, maybe a 2 year deal, both parties agree and share the money to invest in there football/rugby club. Thoughts?
Help get the club back to Darlo by helping to spread the word about the "Back to Darlo!" fund. The image on the right will be constantly updated with the latest total so please feel free to use the image link below the thermometer on your own signatures, blogs, websites, etc.Image

Is that actually the official name of the ground though? When I used to do Teesside League game it was just 'Darlington RFC' as the name of the ground.

I am sure something could be done along those lines mind. We just need a middle-eastern airline with big enough pockets!

Don't choose a budget airline or they will charge for using the toilet!

I used to think that New Feethams would be my preferred choice.

But I actually prefer Blackwell Meadows or simply The Meadows.
For you to insult me, I must first value your opinion.

Except its not on Feethams Lane anymore.

Blackwell Meadow sounds fine to me.

Err... maybe we should ask our hosts ... before we start taking over & changing signs ;)
The ground sponsorship seems like a good idea in the future but I would think the next step would be to agree the terms of our tenure first.

What exactly is wrong with Blackwell Meadows? It's a nice name. The only alteration should be for sponsorship. And it would have to be serious cash. Which we won't get.

I have to agree, there is absolutely no need to change the name other than incorporating a sponsors name if the opportunity were to arise.

I think Kendal were more than a little knarked off when Cosyseal jumped ship to us from them this season but they may be slightly relieved that their ground is no longer called the Cosyseal Stadium ..... mind you money does talk in such matters ..... And their loss is our gain .... ;)

There is nothing wrong with "Blackwell Meadows" .... That's where it is ...... Feethams is Feethams and will never be anywhere else ..... Trying to create a "quaint" Feethams style ground might be a better option and Blackwell Meadows is already quite quaint ...

I like Blackwell Meadows, but would call it The Meadow for short...I would only give a ground naming rights to someone who is prepared to offer serious cash like 6 figures a year at least, not happening anytime soon, so Blackwell Meadows sounds fine to me

Could be worse, at least were not Shepshed Dynamo, there ground The Dovecote is on Butthole Lane, what that has to do with anything, I don't know

We were at Feethams since 1883. We lost our identity at the arena under various unappealing monickers. We'll have been at Bishop 2 years. if we're going back home - and just along from our old Polam Lane entrance at that - it should be the New Feethams Ground. Nothing else.

Regardless of the ground name I'd like to see us drop the 1883 for our name whenever possible.
On the fixture posters at the new ground and for distributing it should read Darlington Fc vs ........
The 1883 bit is irritating. It's like having one of those poos where your still wiping after 50 sheets of bog roll and you eventually say "that'll do for now". Only to regret it 45 minutes later as your walking round with an unsavoury itch between your buttocks that you can't scratch in public.

No that's just cringeworthy, surely an option which is better for business is selling the naming rights to the ground, every little helps.

Blackwell Arena

Edit (I wasn't being serious btw  )

I'd also much prefer if it just became known as "Blackwell", rather like Barnsley's ground is just called Oakwell.

Leave the name as it is. Id be mortified if we go into this partnership and then suddenly we end up changing the name of the ground to suit us(unless its linked to sponsorship).

The only way anything should be changed is if there is a sponsorship deal.

Even then it should keep the Blackwell Meadows since that is the Rugby Clubs. So it would become The [SponsorName] Blackwell Meadows or [Sponsors Name] @ Blackwell Meadows (similar to the St James' Park one).

Wonder if these guys are interested http://bookshop.blackwell.co.uk/jsp/edi ... tAodMh0ADw

I like Blackwell meadows. Keep it as it is - it is after all the rugby clubs ground.

I hate sponsorships for ground titles, but if someone offers up decent money for it, it would be hard to turn it down.

Why are we talking about changing the name of the ground? It isn't even ours, it's the rugby clubs isn't it? Anyway 'The Meadows' sounds sort of quaint, bringing on images of lazy sunny days in the Home Counties playing village cricket. I quite like it.

It's better than 'Gay Meadow' old home of Shrewsbury Town. Anyway, it's disrespectful for any of us to even consider changing the name after the rugby club have offered to help us, It's not ours to change!
