E-mail Providers

Post by MaddosMilkman » Thu Oct 03, 2013 3:06 pm

Anyone know any good, reputable providers? Happy to pay if their likely to be around long term and be safe and secure?

Don't fancy Gmail as I don't fancy giving them my mobile number or signing up to Google + or whatever it's called.

Are you just after an email address? Just go with gmail, they're as good as any.

Just don't fancy giving them my mobile number - heard too many stories.

Also no way to opt out of google + which doesn't really interest me.

What stories have you heard? The mobile number is just for initial signup I think, they send you a code to confirm your identity.

You can skip Google+ by not submiting any information or adding anyone.

It loathes me to say it, since it's Microsoft, but the new Hotmail is actually pretty good, and their data protection policy is significantly better than Google.

I use http://www.fastmail.fm for one of my private accounts. It was a private company until Opera bought them and merged them with operamail, but Opera are re-orienting their business and an email service no longer fits in, so the fastmail management team have just bought the company back.

It's pretty good for a free account - not sure what advantages the paid service gives you but it's reliable and there are real people ready to answer any problems you might have, not that I've ever noticed any problems with the service... ever.

Edit: Here's the full info on their features and packages... it actually looks pretty good.
