Most of you (or even none of you ) have never heard of me and I fully appreciate that but I wanted to tell you a little bit about me.

I've worked at various Councils over the last 14 years but always in the Welfare Benefits environment and last year I just got frustrated with things so in March 2011, I setup a Facebook page (Facebook.com/dtonjobs) and I guess things have all started from that really. I posted jobs, looked at CV's, interviewed people etc and just over a year later that page gets approx 3.5 million views a year and I've secured employment for over 60 people.

I was approached by a guy a few months back on Twitter and he was really interested but I thought nothing of it, never really took much notice and so continued what I was doing. In Febuary this year things got serious and he bought JobsDarlington.com, I found myself in a voluntary redundancy situation and that website is due to launch in about 2 weeks. We now own a further 10 local job boards but to us, it's not about the money (although it would be nice) but to us, it's about getting the community involved, we provide free advice to those who have struggled for a long time finding work but also we are there if people want total career changes. We will advertise your business, deal with your recruitment and at a fraction of any other recruitment agencies. We also want to work with charities and it would be nice next year to sponsor Darlington Football team! (Take a look at Brighton & Hove Jobs).

With all this is mind and because I've lived in Darlington all my life, we designed the website around the Quaker colours and we will be advertising DFC on our site and doing whatever we can to assist in securing the future of the club.

I'm a good networker, know an awful lot of businesses and I'm not afraid to ask so I guess that's one of the reasons I was asked to join the board. I get as frustrated as anyone as I'm an organiser, I like to see things through to the end but I will do anything I can to see this club survive. My cousin (Anthony Seaman) and my Uncle (Peter Haygarth) are massive supporters of DFC and to say they were surprised I joined the board was an understatement! They know what I'm like though and now it's sunk in, they are not so surprised!

Anyway, the link to our final design is here:

Thoughts?? (be kind now folks)

Tori

Can I add, I've NEVER met my business partner, he lives in Brighton but originally from Darlington (43yrs old, went to Longfield).

Looks a well designed website, and hope it goes well. I always think highly of people who quit there day job to go it alone. Just wish I had the balls to do it myself!

Aw thanks. Wasn't that hard a decision but not sure if I would have done it if redundancy wasn't an option. I just think thank god now ! I clearly subconsciously wanted to do something around recruitment, hope it pays off !

Hopefully this does (ignore the wording at the bottom) but
it's just the design.

I'll have to get my wife on the site. There is a big hole in her CV which doesn't look good. I'm encouraged that there are jobs in Darlington. Thanks for all the hard work and we need pushy characters (in the best possible sense)

looks a good website - well done.
I deal with Recruitment Agencies (Hays, Reed, Nigel Wright etc) and they have placed me with positions in the past - I must have generated over 30k for these agencies in recruitment fees as I have moved several times and am 36 (only).
What I hate is the false promises, basically you are treated as a commodity and you are matched against jobs where you dont have the right experience, you turn up for the interview and the employers look at you suprisingly when the penny drops that you dont fit the job spec.
In my younger days I would have turned up for an interview and if I got an offer I would have taken it - even though it wasnt right for me being pursuaded by the recruiter "to give it a go".
Anyway rant over - what I am trying to say is there is an opportunity for your business to work as the majority of businesses trying to do this are very bad at it. Now being in a position where I can potentially recruit other people I know the agencies that are useless and would not use them again.
Well done and good look - I will keep and eye on your website.
