What happened to the Newcastle fans protest against Ashley and the Cockney Mafia? Or is it because he has been proved right in his actions that they have gone all quiet on that score? Will it start up again as soon as they lose a few games or lose some players to bigger clubs?

Ashley has made some mistakes. but he's making up for it. to be honest most newcastle fans are just enjoying whats happening on the pitch.

If you call sorting out the finances, getting rid of overpaid rubbish and hiring a manager with a track record in the premier league "mistakes" then yes hes made a few!

But Pardew has done a far better job with similar resources. Maybe Hughton was underachieving?

All Ashley has ever done wrong is not be a toon legend and/or a Geordie. That is the only currency Newcastle fans deal in.

Disagree. hughton took newcastle up, he didn't have players like Ba, cisse, cabaye and ben arfa etc (well he had ben arfa but he was injured) you could argue that we had Barton and nolan but they weren't the players to take us to the next level like cabaye, cisse and Ba & ben arfa are.

look at what he's doing at birmingham.. he's a very good manager and he did nothing to warrant being sacked.

ashley has made mistakes, everyone knows it. but like i say he's making up for it now.

do i really need to go over it?

Pretty much relegated us by himself.. the way he treat keegan. (buying and selling players without his permission), the appointment of Dennis Wise. The way he just sacked hughton for no apparent reason, changing the stadium name. (even though it'll always be known as St james' park).. i've probably missed a few things..

like i've said, he's making up for it now, but he making up for the mistakes HE made in the first place.

But you were shite for ages, Ashley didnt start that.

You were always going to get relegated eventually an keegan was a liability even by Newcastles standards.

ashley made the situation worse. Keegan left for a good reason, he wasn't being allowed to do his job. if he was left to do his job then we wouldn't have been relegated.

You would have.

Keegan would have crumpled the first time he hit a bad stint, Ashley or no Ashley.

he got us out of a relegation scrap the previous season. We wouldn't have went down if keegan didn't leave, end of discussion really.

What you mean is Ashley wanted him to work within a budget and Keegan wasnt prepared to!! Players had to be sold to get the club out of a mess financially. Yes you got relegated but it was either that or go into administration.

Keegan was utterly utterly clueless. Mike Ashley outlined his plan early on - that the club had to become more sustainable. He has stuck to this, bringing in players from far and wide who might not be picked up by other clubs.

By selling naming rights to the stadium, he is potentially generating further funds to assist the club in being sustainable. Like you say, the fans will call it what they want anyway, so I fail to see in what way this is a mistake.

Hughton didn't have those players at his disposal, but would he have uncovered them, and brought them in? Who knows. One thing is for sure though, replacing Hughton with Pardew has not turned out to be a mistake, regardless of whether Hughton was hard done by or not.

I also fail to see why bringing Dennis Wise in was a mistake, other than that Newcastle fans don't like him.

Getting relegated looks like the best thing to have happened to Newcastle in the last 15 years. You have to break a few eggs and all that.

It will be interesting, whether or not Newcastle qualify for the Champs League, to see what happens next. Will the likes of Tiote, Ba and Cisse be lured elsewhere? Will Mike Ashley dispense with Pardew for a bigger name to try and attract the next level of player? Will he invest heavily to try and maintain Champions League football if they qualify?
