I totally agree, there's no point in holding referendums if the result is ignored/challenged/disputed. On Facebook earlier a friend who voted leave said, because betfair had 4 times more money matched in the remain market than the leave market that the outcome had already been decided..... Yep, sure! He literally didn't have a clue what he was talking about!

I voted to remain, and hope the majority of our population do the same, but I do hope that if remain is the result it isn't a landslide, more like a 10% so that Europe is fully aware that a significant proportion of our population are not happy with the status quo.

The pound has gained over a cent against the dollar since the polls closed...

I've expected remain to win for weeks now and a remain win to result in Sterling to strengthen, hence why I've not bought my holiday money yet despite leaving in a weeks time.

I stand to lose a fair bit of money if the pound collapses because I've just sold my house and will be swapping most of the money for USD when it comes through.

It'll be interesting how the North East votes. A predominantly Labour area, who in theory you would expect to vote to remain, but due to immigration fears, I'd expect the North East to vote to leave. High turnouts being reported.

Looks like the first to call will be Gibralter declaring first. Still don't know how the hell Gibraltar is involved, but apparently they are part of Britain.

Farage making himself look like a sore loser mentioning the governments extended registration period.

He also said a small loss such as 4% would be result in unfinished business but a vote of 2-1 for remain it would end it.

Carswell the lone UKIP MP is rubbishing what Farage is saying. Wonder if Ashdown will eat his hat again.

I've read a few tweets and newspaper articles that have said there was no exit polls ..... well what did I fill in as I was departing the polling station?

Newcastle turnout was 68%, 129,073 votes

65,404 Remain
63,598 Leave
69 votes rejected

Closer than I expected, Leave must be happy with that.

There's a few indications that indicate the Leave side are doing better than the pollsters think.
Newcastle closer than expected.
Sunderland even with Nissan is expected to be 60/40 for exit.
Lower turnout in Scotland then expected
Paddy Ashdown thinks postal voters will give the leave vote the slight edge.

Sunderland turnout was 65%, 134,400 votes.

51,930 Remain
82,394 Leave

Big win for Leave.

Where you involved in the referendum today Pete? Don't you usually get involved with polling stations or the count?

I would normally be involved, but couldn't take part today I'm afraid.

The pound has collapsed to 1.44, down 6% in a few minutes. This is very exciting.

West Midlands says votes are at least 60/40 for the leave campaign. Hartlepool looks like over 70% vote for leave as well.

People are saying that the leave vote is better than expected.

Looks like the North is voting pretty decisively to leave. Lower turnout in the London area, almost certainly due to yesterday's bad weather.

There is no way Leave can win this. It would be the craziest result after the most craziest day ever.

Looks like it could be a crazy day then. The pound is dropping again, which indicates that a leave result is becoming more likely.

The pound is collapsing to under 1.42 to the US%. Earlier it was just over 1.50 to the US%. Looks like you're going to lose your bet Henley, but I guess you'll be still happy?

I covered it this morning at 5/1 (https://www.darlofc.co.uk/forum/viewtop ... 82#p387082) so if Leave wins I'll be break even.

I can't believe there's a chance I could be relieved I covered it after what's gone on today. I was kicking myself for covering it at 10pm when Farage was conceding defeat. This is crazy :?

Are there any more big London (remain-leaning) boroughs to come?

They scare me when then those results come in
