They'll probably be even more confused when you said you were travelling down from Liverpool?

Re: Rugby League
I'm quite jealous of the fact you attended that game, it looked a cracking day out down at Twickenham from the game on youtube.
Re: Rugby League
Love going to "HQ" especially when England play Wales. Even better if I can catch some Max Boyce on the way.Darlo_Pete wrote: ↑Thu Jun 04, 2020 11:48 amI'm quite jealous of the fact you attended that game, it looked a cracking day out down at Twickenham from the game on youtube.

Re: Rugby League
I'm pretty sure the reason we were on the M6 was to watch Plymouth v Darlington at Wembley!
Re: Rugby League
Well, I have been arguing this for SL.
As Sky have broadcasting rights to the championship they must have agreed.
Lets hope they do for SL.

Re: Rugby League
Good to see that the Cook Island men's team will be based in Darlington at the Arena, they could have picked BM.
Re: Rugby League
Where on earth did you find it? I searched high and low and all I could find was "Tees Valley".Darlo_Pete wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 6:01 pmGood to see that the Cook Island men's team will be based in Darlington at the Arena, they could have picked BM.
I did say on a rugby site it would either be the arena or the Uni campus in Stockton.

It was on BBC Look North, when they did an interview with the coach of DMP inside the ground.

Re: Rugby League
Now the authorities are proposing to temporarily ban scrums, on the return of RL in August. Personally I think this is a step too far, as surely players in the SL will have passed a Coronavirus Test before being allowed to play. Not sure how games will be re-started either.

As I read it this is 1 of 3 changes but I did not get that it was temporary.Darlo_Pete wrote: ↑Thu Jun 11, 2020 3:17 pmNow the authorities are proposing to temporarily ban scrums, on the return of RL in August. We have all complained about the silly "none scrum" as looking daft and being a waste of time that slows the game down.
Personally I would like to see all scrums contested as they still are in Union. I do not get it can be a health and safety issue for 1 code but not the other.

Re: Rugby League
For me the RL scrums is far better than the RU version. I usually watch England when they play internationals, but the most annoying thing about watching RU for me is the scrums. They keep collapsing & sometimes they can take 3mins. The RL version is very quick, which suits the RL game. When they played the clash of the codes, the RU players said it was the speed to the RL game that they couldn't cope with & I think the RL version is even quicker now than it was in those days.
Re: Rugby League
I simply believe that if not contesting scrums we may as well just start with a tap or heel.Either of which would be faster than the modern scrum. "Scrum half" is now a defunct position as well.Darlo_Pete wrote: ↑Thu Jun 11, 2020 5:49 pmFor me the RL scrums is far better than the RU version. As to Union I go 4-5 times a season to Newcastle as well as Northampton and Leicester when visiting family and watch the internationals. I agree about the dropping of the scrum, but the cure is already there if ref's were quicker to penalise the offenders. You can normally see players dropping their shoulder if they are loosing grip and in danger of being pushed back to drop the scrum, do not let them do it 5-6 times before you give a penalty. every second time a side deliberately collapse then give the penalty. It would soon stop it happening so much. (Yet another modern thing that has got worse the last 10 years or so.
Re: Rugby League
Knew I had got it on my brain from somewhere.
Pete, this is what I had got wind of that made me think the no scrums was permanent.

Re: Rugby League
That's remarkable an inspiration during these troubled times. He'll be able to walk onto the pitch at CP when you have your first home game. Thanks.
Re: Rugby League
Hearing August 6th for re-start Pete.
No "loop" games so shortened season, and no promotion this year or league expanding to 14 to be decided, but certainly no relegation.

Re: Rugby League
Hull KR & Toronto will be relieved that there's going to be no relegation.
Re: Rugby League
After the long break most of our injuries have cleared.(The 1 "good" to come from the virus), so I honestly expect us to get away from trouble on our own merits.Darlo_Pete wrote: ↑Sat Jun 20, 2020 6:00 pmHull KR & Toronto will be relieved that there's going to be no relegation.

I think Toronto will pick up their form, especially once they get to play back in Toronto.

Re: Rugby League
Bad news that the Championship & Division 1 can't decide on to whether to abandon the season or re-start it!! Apparently they are going to conduct a survey, well good luck with that.

SL returns on the 2-8-20, with a bottom of the table clash between Hull KR & Toronto. 3 games to be played at a neutral ground, with a full round of fixtures a week later.

Re: Rugby League
Great news for Wigan, that John Bateman is returning from the Canberra Raiders, were he has been a great success at the start of next season. It seems curious that there has been a steady trickle of especially Wigan players who have gone over to the NRL been a success, but then return to their original clubs.
Re: Rugby League
Thank God Wigan run the RFL and do not have to worry about going over the cap season after season.Darlo_Pete wrote: ↑Sun Jul 05, 2020 7:17 amGreat news for Wigan, that John Bateman is returning from the Canberra Raiders, were he has been a great success at the start of next season. Of course we abide by the rules, you're just jealous, haha.

Yea, but rule number 1 is if Wigan break any rule change the rule so they are OK.Darlo_Pete wrote: ↑Sun Jul 05, 2020 10:37 amOf course we abide by the rules, you're just jealous, haha.

Re: Rugby League
I see Hull are causing problems over wages & it is threatening the start of SL at the start of August.

Re: Rugby League
Hahahaha, what can I say that would not be taken as bias? All I know is that KR players all agreed a 30% reduction through to the end of the season, and that it was the players who said the end of the season not as was first muted by the club until August 1st. They did this because they were given the full facts and figures by our chairman in a sit down face to face. Perhaps other clubs have not given their players the full info.Darlo_Pete wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 10:18 pmI see Hull are causing problems over wages & it is threatening the start of SL at the start of August.

While I laughed I am actually a bit shocked. Pearson is normally quite savvy about money. I have met him a few times as he runs a bar/restaurant jointly with our chairman in the city and I often go in for a meal before heading home and he is not 1 to throw the cash about if he can save on it.
1 thing I would say is that Dull have a number of players off contract at the end of the season and some of the bigger names have already said they are leaving, possibly Pearson is doing this as a sort of "sweetener" to try to change a few minds or so that others will sign new contracts.
I will also sound biased when I say I think we should forget relegation this year and re format with 14 clubs next season.(I would like to see us back up to 16 the season after), and run 2 not 3 professional leagues. I have said before, I think we will be fine as all bar 1 of our players are back, but it will certainly be hard on Toronto if they get relegated when they won't play 1 game in Canada and have been put in the position of having to change grounds for home games so often. I think that in 14 home games they are using a total of 7 different grounds, including 1 at Craven Park, which will be a "double header" so they can't even charge any sort of entrance and obviously will get nothing from bar/food sales while having to pay to use CP.).
