Finn and Onions dropped, very surprised about Onions; having done nothing wrong!

I also think that Root is a more than capable backup spinner, I can't understand why Monty makes the squad (unless Swan is carrying an injury).

Just look at Monty's record at Old Trafford.

And your surprised that a fast bowler that can't get in the team is dropped for a test at Old Trafford??

Does that explain Chris Tremlett's inclusion!

No it doesn't. I'm very surprised at his inclusion.

But Panesar's is easy to understand.

I just can't see them picking him, so I don't see the point of having him in the squad.

In my book the only change will be Taylor for KP if he's still injured.

Early signs are that this test might be quite a tight one, at least judging by the fact the Aussie batting line-up seems to be holding together reasonably well so far.

Of course, a couple of quick wickets would as usual change the complexion completely.

Haven't watched much of today but I'm actually quite pleased that Australia have put in a proper batting performance at last. Sets it up nicely, hopefully the rain stays away.

In case anyone is interested, and you think it will extend into a fifth day, Lancs are selling tickets for less than a pony each.

However, there are no refunds in the event of no play, and you can only claim a discount against future tickets rather then your money back.

The umpiring in this series has been utterly shocking.

Another terrible performance from the top order. Time to start the rain dance...

So we retain the Ashes, the Aussies are as some thought better than they look.

I think they rely hugely on Clarke. If he doesn't score runs, the rest seems to fall apart.

But I'm glad they've shown their metal a little too late with us already comfortable.

If I were an unbiased observer, it would have been good for the Aussies to have won this test.
England leading 2-1 with two to play, it could well have turned into a classic series. As it goes it is going to be a bit of a damp squib (literally).

Yep - England need to play now with the pressure off though, as mentally going in to the next series with a 4-0 or 3-1 record will make a huge difference to going in to it having lost the last two tests.

Surely now is the time for Onions (with the next Test at Chester-le-Street), in for Breslad I reckon.

Yorkshire need him back to help them win the Championship!

Anybody still watching?

Quite an interesting match so far, I'd say England are probably favourites at the moment (mainly thanks to Bell again).

Yes, still watching.

Partly because, as you say, an interesting match. And partly because there's not really much else on!

Very similar to the first test. Once again we had them on the ropes first innings but let them back in to it, before pulling away a bit in the second.

You'd have to say they are in a very good position now but given the way this series has gone it wouldn't be a surprise to see them totally collapse either.

If Joe Root hadn't got himself punched by Warner, we'd probably not be 2-0 up in this series.
