The Ashes

Post by comeondarlo » Wed Jul 03, 2013 12:21 pm

It's nearly upon us.

Any predictions......

I reckon it'll be closer than everyone thinks.

I think England will win 2-1 with Joe Root man of the series.

England will win 3-0,only the good old British weather saving the Aussies a white wash........I can't see them even coming close to winning a game and wouldn't be surprised to see an innings defeat more than once !

I wouldn't pretend to be an expert on cricket but the Aussies seem very poor nowadays. I would go 3-1 England.

Btw, why is the return series later this year instead of next?

It's because with the current schedule the Ashes were always being held either just before, or just after, the Cricket Word Cup.

Hence, they are holding the Ashes twice in 12 months to apply an offset to that.

Is the Ashes first to 5 games or best of 5 games, not a big cricket fan, but from what I have heard about it, England are looking good for to take it again...

Has it ever happened where England have a hat trick of Ashes wins in history

It's best of 5.

England are looking good. Good is probably not the best term, they are looking OK. While they're not the side they've been for the last 5-10 years, Australia look dreadful, so England should be a safe bet.

England have won three in a row many times, though the last time was 1977 - 1981 ('81 being the famous "Bothams Ashes").

In total, England have won three in a row on 4 occasions. The most they ever won in a row is 8, though that was when the Ashes first started, and Australian cricket hadn't found it's stride.

The 8 in a row Australia won between 1989 and 2003 is almost certainly the most impressive record of either side. Australia during that spell were nothing short of amazing. It's hard to imagine us ever seeing such incredible cricket dominance from one country again.

Some cracking knowledge here!

It starts next Wednesday at Trent Brhdge, in the middle of a heat wave apparently. I think their bowling which isn't too bad will win them a test.

I don't think we'll tear them a new arsehole - but I think we'll win the series by a couple of tests. 3-1 is my prediction.

I'm very very wary of the wounded animal that is Australia.
These might not be best talented bunch that have been over here but remember the last time they were written off before a ball was bowled .

2-1 England in a much tougher series than people expect.

Remember he's my God!

The Aussies have started very well, we need to settle down a bit.
If overhead conditions stay the same, we'll bowl well tomorrow also.

Let's wait and see how we bowl/they bat before writing it off as a disaster.

Low 200s is not good by any means, but we've got the bowling attack to hurt the Aussies.

Exactly Spyman, just a pity Onions ain't bowling in these conditions, reckon we may skittle them out for under 200, well we will see now England all out for 215, last 4 wickets for 2 runs!!

Everytime he's commentated on TMS berating the Aussie bowling attack they've taken a wicket!

He called the Aussie bowling, "buffet bowling" and the very next ball they took a wicket.

Aussies 53-4 so far with only two quick bowlers as pretty boy broad has a bruised shoulder, still reckon sub 200 on the cards if not 150-175

Agreed, lol at 'pretty boy' btw.

We're favourite for this Test again.

I must admit to questioning Finn's involvement when it was swinging so much.
Breslad or Onions would have both done well.

The groundsman said that a ball hadn't swung all season until today!

Ah, when will commentators learn!

Unusual for Boycott to get something wrong!

I'll be taking the odds on Agar going for a duck in the second innings, whatever they are.
