Anybody need a job?

Post by jarramel » Sat Jan 12, 2013 10:00 am

I had Rolls Royce on the phone offering me a position.
They are based in Sunderland the job entails being time served in an engineering discipline, pay offered £17-80 p/hour. Was no good for me but if anyone would like details let me know.

Nice one.
I get around 4 job offers a week, happens when you have a skill.
Still if you want to slate me for trying to help people so be it.
I know of at least one person who is grateful.

Come on now jarramel - don't tell porkies.

Your only discernible skill is being rubbish on the Internet, and I can't see many job openings coming out of that.

Why would i make up a job?
Get a life or a girlfriend at least.
Before you start i'm married 3 kids 2 grandchildren.
Time served fitter, employed as a cnc turner on a mazak intergrex and 800.
I know this won't mean anything at all to you but as i said earlier don't slate me for trying to help people in the unfortunate posistion of being unemployed.
In this current climate people should help each other out.
Now jog on muppet.

I thought you were tired old man, why are you still here giving me your life story?!

If I'd known what a big shot you were I wouldn't have taken the piss - after all, it's not every day you meet a factory fitter who managed to knock his bird up a few times

I bow down to you, captain of industry!

None of which is engineering. Don’t downgrade our profession.

Strange thing to say.
Does this mean my HND in mechanical engineering is not a engineering qualification?

It’s not enough to be recognised as an engineer, no, you have a qualification which allows you to work towards being an accredited engineering technician and you are doing a technicians job.

But even if it was enough, if I studied to be a vet but ended up working in Burger King would I still be a vet? NO!

Yes you would still be qualified as a vet as the letters following your name would indicate.
I shall show this thread to the lads at work and give you some feedback.
However i think the words engineering ltd in our companies name tends to give the game away.lol

Gonna have my tuppence worth. You're not an engineer if you don't have a degree in an engineering discipline!

Correct.

I served my time as an electrical-mechanical engineer, and then worked as a project engineer. Was I ever an actual accredited engineer? Was I fuck, I was a technician working in an engineering field.

My cousin says he's a refrigeration engineer but his main job roles are unblocking toilets and changing light bulbs. Does he sound like an engineer?

I think nowadays alot of jobs have 'special' names for the jobs the people are doing so that they can feel more important. For example my mate is a document control manager and I asked him what his main duties are and he said that he basically recieves emails of plans which he saves into PDF format and files away electronically. To me that sounds like a filing clerk?

I am glad some of the people on here know what they are talking about. The majority of people in our country who call themselves engineers are not which results in a very poor reputation of a vital profession, resulting in less people commencing training.

For those who don’t know where I am coming from the person who wires your house is an electrician not an electrical engineer, people who make items in a factory are operators or technicians not engineers, the guy who fixes your car is a mechanic not a mechanical engineer and there is no such thing as a heating/oven/washing machine/refrigerator engineers.

This

Completely agree. I don't know if it is worse in big organisations but some of the job titles in our place are laughable!

Come now fatty, I think you know that Train Drivers aren't accredited engineers, its a historical job title and no more makes you an engineer than the British Gas 'Engineer' who put my boiler in, or me when I used to sit behind a desk doing paperwork under the title of 'Project Engineer'.

Worth a try though :D

With all the learning and training we have to do and continue doing it may as well be.
