Yet another slaughter of innocent kids, by a gunman.

How long will it take before we ban ALL people from owning guns.

There is no reason why any sane and sensible person should want to own a gun.

So I should lose my guns because America has a pathetic right to bare arms law where any head case can spout the constitution to own a gun, I am vetted and checked and regulated to own guns for my sports.

I agree with freedom of speech and I know you do but for fucks sake shut up you Muppet.

The Americans have it very wrong but do not tarnish Brits with the same brush.

America has 31 school attacks since 1999 we have had hungerford and dunblaine carried out by license holders.

You can never account for mental breakdowns but we have a better grip on reality than the US

There should be a simple question when applying for a gun licence.

1). Do you want a Gun licence ?

Answer - Yes

Then - You are refused.

Why does any sensible person want to shoot anything or anyone ??

I have been a pest controller, game keeper and currently a game shooter so a gun is quite important for those jobs and activities, tried shouting bang at pigeons but they just don't die, why oh why are you allowed to own a keyboard?

But Charlton Heston won't be happy if they ban guns.

The problem with America is that they have a large proportion of nutters and their constitution.

They shouldn't have gone independent and paid their tea taxes back in the 18th century!

More people die from knife attacks in the UK than guns, hope you do not own any knives DC, even a butter knife could be fatal, why oh why do people have knives and why do people want to butter bread, absolutely absurd statement just like yours.

Whilst were at it, better cut of hands as they can kill you know, also stop stupid topics being made.

Guns do not kill on there own same with knives, restrict the nutters from owning them as a matter of right and you will start to reduce the problems.

What has happened is tragic but it is not the guns fault, its the arsehole pulling the trigger who is to blame.

Do they? How many sicko high-school rampages do they regularly get in Thailand and Colombia? What's happened in America is down to a nutter, and this isn't the first time. It's also a far more complex problem than can be solved with better gun control as seen in Norway where ownership is incredibly strict but didn't stop Breivick. The media plays a part as well - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PezlFNTG ... page#t=98s

I thought the topic of this thread was going to be about people using capital Letters unnecessarily.

Guns should be allowed, because there is always the chance someone will use one to shoot Darlo Cockney through the fucking temple and put us all out of our misery.

Licensing laws would suffice. It is a bit ridiculous that a man off the street can buy a gun without any idea of what their intentions for ownership are.

Unfortunately though it is the man that pulls the trigger and pre-empting that someone would do these sort of things is near impossible, if they didn't have a gun what is to suggest they won't go on a knife rampage?

My sister lives in Connecticut so I can relate to the type of town this happened. Deeply shocking. Of all the states, CN is probably the last one I would have guessed which shows how unique, isolated and complex these incidents are. My view is quite simple on guns. They are inanimate objects so have no morality of their own. However, as dangerous objects they need to be subject to strict regulation. There is a world of difference between your Bogratsteve's having a gun where there is a purpose and your local towny petty criminals. The countryside people I know are deeply respectful of the dangers of guns in contrast to your city gang types who see them as sort of cool. If the drugs problem and mental health in this country gets worse I can see regulation needing to get tightened. I'd be interested to know whether gun regulation extends to households or individuals i.e. if you're sane but you live with a nutter would you be allowed to have a gun in your house?? Finally, guns are much more dangerous than knives because of their indiscriminate potential. I also think the police should have guns because of this.

sorry, you are right, knives aren't deadly lets not concern ourselves with the mental state of individuals so long as they don't have guns and only non-deadly knives to hand.

Guns are obviously more deadly - but this idea that withdrawing guns from society will stop anything like this happening is ridiculous.

Mr Ryan unwittingly sent the UK down a different route than the USA when he went loopy with his hand guns, the banning of hand guns was hard for legal owners of them, they lost a lot of money but ultimately it was a good thing, the supply of hand guns is reduced in the UK.

And in answer there are 2 basic principles

To own a shotgun you the police have to prove why you can't have one.

To own a rifle you have to prove to the police why you should have one.

Massive difference and to get a class 1 firearms license now is not straight forward.

Having someone in the house with mental health issues will most likely prevent the issue of a license to you certainly for a rifle, a shotgun I'm not sure.....

TBH I'm more scared of knives than guns, they really make me unsettled and the thought of being stabbed is terrifying but to be shot not so, maybe because I have been around guns a lot.

We should first of all ban religion, because allowing people to believe s*** like that allows people to develop all kinds of psychosis and beliefs.

And when I say "we" I mean "the world" not the UK, before somebody points out the gun death statistics in the UK compared to the USA.

Complete bollocks!
Did the Romans,Vikings, Angles, Normans etc have guns?
It certainly never stopped them commiting widespread carnage wherever they went.
If it wasn't guns it would be bombs or samurai swords or some other weapon.
It's the same as saying Dave from Birkenhead was responsible for Heysel. You can't call all gunholders murderers because of a handful of nutters.

Thank you Hilly - the fact that you think my comments are absurd delights me.

I would be extremely worried if you agreed with any of my comments, as I long ago came to the conclusion that you are undoubtedly a dickhead of the first order - look at the banning of people for the bad taste joke thread !!.

Excellent article in the Guardian.

"The trite insistence that "guns don't kill people, people kill people" simply avoids the reality that people can kill people much more easily with guns than anything else that's accessible. Americans understand this. That's why a plurality supports greater gun control, and a majority thinks the sale of firearms should be more tightly regulated.

The trouble is that people feel powerless to do anything about it. The gun lobby has proved sufficiently potent in rallying opposition to virtually all gun control measures that Democrats have all but given up on arguing for it. In the meantime, the country is literally and metaphorically dying for it".

Obama has today announced that he is in favour of gun control.

Given the choice between him and some views on this board, I know who i believe is right.

Can you highlight where anyone in this thread who has said there should not be more gun control in the USA and the current laws are to strick?

I think the UK has about got it right, maybe the granting of open licenses are a bit to strict for those with needs for open variations but that's minor.

Please note Obama has not called for the banning of guns like you called for but some tightening of control so this goes against your belief but you agree with him?????????
