Kevin Pietersen revisited and wicketkeepers
A couple of questions
1. Were we wrong about KP? Simply couldn't cope without him?
2. Why are we underming the wicketkeeping position? Don't think I have seen such a poor exhibition of wicketkeeping by England keepers (Kieswetter/Bairstow) as I have this 20-20 tournament. In the old days it was a specialist position (Knott, Russell/Taylor etc) but now it seems diluted by the requirements of 20-20 cricket. I'd rather have a keeper who can catch and stop the ball as it seems to me false economy otherwise. Have I missed something?

Re: Kevin Pietersen revisited and wicketkeepers
Wrong in what sense? We weren't wrong not to take him, no. He was a twat, and as such he shouldn't have been picked.
If he's willing to put his ego aside, apologise to his team mates and basically get his head down again and keep his mouth shut - then of course he should be given the chance to come back into the squad.
In terms of wicketkeeping, I don't think a poor 20-20 tournament should dirty the fact that in general over the years we've had a very strong setup in the wicketkeeping department. I also think it's harsh for you to single out Bairstow considering he's mainly played as a fielder in the one dayers / 20-20 teams prior to the tournament, but yesterday they took a gamble and put him behind the stumps.

Re: Kevin Pietersen revisited and wicketkeepers
Bairstow comment accepted. Do you think Prior would have been a better option?
Kevin Pietersen revisited and wicketkeepers
I think Prior should be the keeper in all formats of the game. His glove work has improved immensely and his batting is as good as any English wicket keeper. His one day record for England isn't great but I can't imagine Kieswetters being much better.
I felt sorry for Bairstow, he has been struggling with the bat all tournament then chucked the gloves and told to bat at number 3 - seemed a move of desperation in my eyes.
Will be interesting to see who takes the gloves in the one day/T20 games over the winter.

Re: Kevin Pietersen revisited and wicketkeepers
There's no two ways about it, we missed KP vadly.
But I don't think that there was any option cos as Hilly says he was acting like a twat!
It left our middle order lacking experience which maybe why they played Bopara (who could hit a barn door at the mo).
I'll hold my hands up here, I'm Jonny Bs biggest fan but he was awful behind the stumps. I'm not a fan of Bedwetter, I'd have taken Prior!
I believe Jonny B is our future but he needs nursing in, Morgan and KP will be important in his development.
Watching Broad over this comp, I reckon he'll be the next one to have ego problems; he can be a nasty shyte when things don't go his way.

I think you have to blame the selectors in the end. The team didn;t have the requisite experience so best to write it off as a learning experience. I fail to be convinved by Broad - highly intelligent articulate player and a good one that but doesn't seem to have any presence on the field for me. I still enjoy the tournament regardless. Narine is awesome.

Agreed, apart from his fielding.princes town wrote:I think you have to blame the selectors in the end. The team didn;t have the requisite experience so best to write it off as a learning experience. You've got a point about Broad. Maybe because of his lack of presence is the reason he acts like a complete cock sometimes
Re: Kevin Pietersen revisited and wicketkeepers
Where would the experience come from though? The only person that you could argue should be in the team that wasn't was Prior.princes town wrote:I think you have to blame the selectors in the end. KP should have been left at home, no questions.

Yeah KP did himself no favours. Defo Prior and perhaps robert keyHilly wrote:Where would the experience come from though? Re: Kevin Pietersen revisited and wicketkeepers
Never mind all that, isn't there another competition starting in South Africa?
Because we need more cricket - and especially Twenty20 cricket - don't we!

What do any Durham fans think to us (Yorkshire) signing Plunkett? Good riddance?grytters wrote:Never mind all that, isn't there another competition starting in South Africa?

Re: Kevin Pietersen revisited and wicketkeepers
All depends where his head is at, if its not in the boozer then he will be a good signing, if its still up his arse sipping shandy then a waste of time.
His ego is nearly as big as his side burns......

Re: Kevin Pietersen revisited and wicketkeepers
Definately. He's on the piss more than he's on a cricket pitch. I'd rather give young talent a chance than waste it on has beens like him who take for granted being a professional cricketer.Ash_Quaker wrote:What do any Durham fans think to us (Yorkshire) signing Plunkett?
