The greatest sporting event that we will will ever know in our lifetime is taking place in our country.

So where are the posts ??.

OK - The GB football team are not very good - but what about the gymnasts tonight - truly inspiring - first British medal in Gymnastics for 100 years.

Brilliant

And there will be lots more to come. - Support Team GB.

Yup, you're so excited it took you 3 days to tell us all off for not being excited enough.

I'm enjoying it - watching loads of sports anyone only gives a s*** about every 4 years is a great laugh. We all become experts for a couple of weeks.

London transport is coping tremendously, mainly because that daft fucker Boris and his mates at TFL told everyone not to come to London for two weeks. Everyone has done as their told and so the tube is half empty. Nice one.

And I'd say the GB football team look alright - certainly in with a shout of a medal. I'm supporting them even if you're not.

Wait for when Brazil play in the womens beach volleyball. Forget Usain Bolt that will be the highlight of London 2012

I always enjoy the olympics. Enjoyed the diving today, even if Daley and Waterfield couldn't quite do it. The gymnastics today was dramatic. I don't really like gymnastics, but it was very tense and it was a very good performance. Shame about the silver/bronze fiasco. Credit to the judges for getting the right result in the end I suppose. It must've been tough to give that decision knowing what the reaction would have been like in the o2!

Looking forward to the track cycling starting. Hopefully we'll start getting some gold medals soon!

To say we haven't been very good at the football is a bit harsh. The men are top of their group, and the women have already qualified with a game to spare.

I find it painfully dull.

I'm not a mindless drone like darlo cockney so the fact it's happening in my city doesn't change this.

This ticketing is a shambles. It's not just the lazy corporates that's the problem but the ticket website itself is a pit of despair. Staring bleery eyed at a screen counting down from 15 minutes - which flickers back up to 18 minutes every so often just to piss you off - at 1am in the morning hoping to get tickets for fucking Handball... and getting b****** rejected after it said it had the tickets availabe!... is a bit of an alltime low.

Going to Judo this week, Water Polo next week and saw the Cycling on Sunday. Can't say I'm too bothered about the events but I just want to catch it while it's in town, and have to admit the Opening Ceremony made me want a few more tickets for stuff.

LOL at Cockney checking for posts on the Darlington FC fans message board as a barometer of Olympics excitement. It's only on every TV channel and newspaper. I assume he's already checked with the people who sit around him at the match and the Guardian newspaper to see if the correct opinion for him to be expressing is 'very excited'?

personally enjoying it. Some of the technical ability and strength shown in the gymnastics and the diving is quite impressive and the swimming has once again given me inspiration to start swimming myself again, just need to find a pool near me that doesn't require year long membership!

I'm watching the weightlifting in the hope that someone's arse falls out, or suffers a ridiculous dislocation, or something.

There are rubbish sports like fencing and badminton, but im enjoying the volleyball, boxing, swimming, cycling (inc. bmx) and looking forward to track & field.

More than I'm looking forward to football season I think.

I'm looking forward to seeing smartarse Bolt get beaten by Blake in at least 1 event, could be 8 men sub 10 in the 100 with Adam Gemeli an outside chance of making the final.

I'm quite enjoying it. I'm not watching every second of it, but when i can/have time i'm enjoying watching some different sports than those that are normally on TV.

I have always thought that you were a sad b****** - but this really confirms it.

The greatest sporting event in the world - happening in our Country for the only time in our lifetime - and you find it painfully dull.

I've watched all of the GB womens games. They've done really well. I'm going to St James this Friday to watch a quarter final game.

I also like the chance to see sports rarely seen on TV, such as the judo and weighlifting.

For all of those who say they aren't watching/enjoying the olympics, well just realise we'll never see this event in England again in our lifetime.

Agreed - That is why I'm watching everything that I can - it is brilliant and I am so proud that it is happening in London and that we are giving the world the best Olympics ever - best ever venues.

Can't wait for the Athletics to start - But before that, Wiggins to win Gold tomorrow in the time trial.

I was making out I was this great font of cycling knowledge the other day during the men's road race until I failed to come up with a satisfactory answer when my wife asked me why the other members of Team GB were just there to help one guy win & weren't trying to win the race themselves.

I've not been able to watch much of it over the last few Olympics, but my favourite event always used to be the weightlifting, especially back in the days when Süleymanoğlu et al. were at their peak and David Vine did the commentary. Great theatre.

fair play to the womens football team they put on a good show. Amazing attendance at Wembley for it as well!

Hope this gives the women's game a boost and I know this would probably be met with a barrage of challenge but I began wondering after tonight if the Women's game could benefit from removing the national barriers and continuing as a GB union.

Dont feel sorry for me you silly old man.

I dont have any interest in any of the Olympic sports, save the football. Unlike you, Im not a simpleton who will change his mind on this just because the Coca-Cola/Samsung/McDonalds sponsored hype machine tells me to. This is because I possess the ability of free thought, am cleverer and a superior person to you. Sorry mate.

Saying that, it was inevitable a man like you would get excited by the Olympics, with all those lycra clad blokes on display.

I agreed with every word Peter Mullen wrote in yesterday's echo.

Yet again London receives the benefits of everyones taxes with over £10 billion spent on them just so Boris can put some hats on some statues.

The tele coverage is just white noise.

Hey Gideon, can I have my money back please?

Did anyone watch the USA 'dream team' last night. Watched the 1st quarter and they all looked like they couldnt be bothered and would rather be doing something else

They completely changed the line up 5 off, 5 on just at the back end of the first quarter - I think because of this reason! Wouldn't say they were firing all cylinders after that though.

Consider the Olympics is meant to be for Amateurs, and I understand that is why the football is effectively an under23s tournament (compromise really)...why in Basketball can the Americans just basically hand pick from the NBA, I was under the impression that salaries in the NBA were pretty much on par with Footballer wages.

I feel that a wage cap/cannot be full time in these sports would actually make them more aligned with the 'Olympic' Spirit. Then they would need to change the qualification criteria (as could based based on u21s) and then GB could actually compete all the time in the football...

Get that chip off your shoulder fatty.

London is our capital city, and contributes more than enough for the economy to justify some benefit down the line. Nowhere else in the UK has the infrastructure to support the games, and nationally we don't have the public transport to support it being spread wider than it is.

As far as I can see, London is being hit pretty hard by the fact that Boris and TFL have told everyone not to come to London for the next month, so a lot of local business is taking a bit of a hammering during what is normally peak tourist season.

My employer has lost about half a million as a result of the Olympics, and we're largely London based.
