Only fair thing I can think off u have a points system for stats eg X amount of points for each % of more. X amount of points for shots and shots on target etc. Then who ever gets more points wins.

All the players should have to complete the sentence "My team deserves to win because..."
The team of the player with the best answer goes through.

Re: Can anyone think of an alternative to penalties...
Get the two fastest sprinters out of the team and have a tag team goal line to goal line dash...
Or setup a boxing ring in the centre circle and have the hardest player from each side slug it out...
Nah, seriously, use various tie breakers to break a draw
1. Best disciplinary record or
2. Goals scored during the tournament or
3. Goals per game during the tournament
Failing that, draw straws

is the goals per game/goals in the tournament really fair on a team that may have come up against 'tougher' opponents previously.
Make them play a game of football volleyball/tennis in the middle of the pitch at the end of the game.
Or alternatively have the managers play the penalties on FIFA instead.

Just have golden goal, keep playing till a goal is scored simple.

Ah but this way of settling a game was taken out by UEFA not so long ago. Not sure why the only reason I can think is it goes against the principle that a football match has two equal halves.Darlo_Fanatic wrote:Just have golden goal, keep playing till a goal is scored simple.

Actually - I LIKE penalty shoot-outs. It's a real test of nerve and character and the whole range of emotions from utter despair right through to sheer ecstasy which everyone goes through in those few minutes seems to sum up what football is all about - it's what makes it such a great game.
I hope they keep them.

Re: Can anyone think of an alternative to penalties...
for me it has to be similar to penalties but - place the ball in the centre circle, keeper starts on the goal line - the person selected has 15 seconds to take the ball from the centre circle and score - if the ball goes out, keeper grabs hold of the ball in the penalty area then that chance is over. If the keeper fouls the attacker then its a goal. The goalkeeper, like in an attack situation can come out of the box, but cannot handle the ball out of the area.
This would add more skill to the situation and test the persons footballing abilities rather than just running up and booting the ball. The idea is to re-inact a one on one situation - best of 5, followed by sudden death.

Penalties. There's nothing wrong with the current system. If you can't win a game over 120 minutes then you can't say you've been 'robbed' if you lose on penalties. It is a test of nerve, concentration, and skill.
Playing on endlessly isn't an option - it's dangerous for starters as players get more and more tired and risk injuring themselves and others.
Basing it on stats or whatever, from that game or previous games is complete nonsense. As has been said, you'd be a bit aggrieved if you'd had a difficult run to the final, not had a huge amount of possession, shots or whatever, and then dominated the final and lost on stats.
Fair play also not workable, as wrong decisions and subjectivity play such a large part in how many bookings teams get.
Penalties are fair and a completely level playing field for both sides, and also good viewing for fans.

Quakerz - if you actually attended games and spoke to people you might actually find our facts, rather than spreading s*** on this board.

Penalties are fine. They are very dramatic.
I have to say that they don't help the "FIFA are biased against England" conspiracy theory by coming out with this not long after an English team wins the biggest club competition in Europe....

Blatter only wants to change the system because Bayern lost - he is after all an honoury board member of Bayern Munich - a bit like Trevor (Tevez) Brooking is at West Ham.

See who can score most points on playforyourclub, which is like kind of penalties.
Re: Can anyone think of an alternative to penalties...
Each goalkeeper has a 9mm stig auto and both stand 15yards away and unloads the chamber trying to hit the other keeper and whoever hits the target wins !
