O/T Swine Flu

Post by Lawman3 » Tue Jul 14, 2009 3:45 pm

Swine flu has hit Darlo according to the Echo. Anyone got it? Watch out for people sneezing and coughing on Thursday night.

Its in Newton Aycliffe too, at my sons school.

Most parents are keeping their kids away but I continue to send my son because I think you cannot avoid something like this. You'll either get it or not.

Probably best to have a dose now to build up your antibodies for when it mutates and becomes even more aggressive in the autumn.
Mind you, I said that with absolutely no scientific evidence to support it.

The ground floor of the building I work in has 2 suspected cases, and one of our employees (London based) has a suspected case as well.

Magnet has one confirmed case also, im not overly worried tbh, unless you have an underlying illness you should be okay.

apart from if and when it mutates it becomes a different strain and you're still as prone.

I told my kids that the best way to fight the flu was to get plenty of sleep before hand in order to make a speedy recovery. RESULT - both in bed before 9 last night!!!

Someone's husband in our office has it apparently.

I keep thinking I might have it but then I realise it is probably my body telling me I'd like a week or so off in bed.

My son has it! They closed his school today (High Coniscliffe) because about 60 kids and 5 teachers are off.
I'm feeling okay (at the moment). Unfortunately, I'm one of those people with "serious underlying health problems", so if I get it I'm fucked!

What's an underlying health problem, and how do I know if I've got one?

That is a serious question by the way, kind of anyway.

I think it means you have a long standing health problem. For example asthma (spelling?) or maybe heart issues something like that. I could be wrong.

Must admit this evening I'm not feeling too great. My shoulder is aching a bit (however my bag has been heavy today as I took my laptop to work) and I'm a bit tired. Didn't get much sleep last night though so it might be nothing more than just being a bit knackered.

I was also in London before the weekend which, if you believe the newspaper boards around Kings Cross, may as well be the land of the walking nearly dead.

For those interested - NHS have the symptoms etc on their site: http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Pandemic-f ... ptoms.aspx

I heard there was a case in Glaxo today - Barnard Castle.

I read something somewhere about the government warning parents against holding "swine flu parties", where if one kid gets swine flu, a load of parents organise a get-together so that all their kids can catch the disease in its present (mild) form and be resistant to what will probably be a more virulent outbreak in the winter.

I see they're also planning vaccinations for the entire country now that healthy people have died from it, not sure how long that will take though.

Apparently that GP died of causes other than swine flu according to the BBC.

I don't think anything has been released about the young girl yet so it might be that she too had something else going on.

I did exactly the same thing tonight.
We've had it down here for awhile now, as Qz said if they're going to get they will.

Has anybody seen anyone wearing face masks yet? I'm in Barcelona where it's nowhere near as bad as Britain (I think there's only 6 confirmed cases in the whole of Catalunya) and on my way to work the other day I saw somebody wearing one... could have been for some other reason but I'm not sure what that would be.

I'm pretty certain that no one in Britain has died from swine flu (on it's own)

My Mrs is a Scientist and works in the flu field, it's just flu but a different strain.

PS It's obviously worse if you're a bloke!
