Your Worst Ever, Darlo Starting Eleven

Post by Dn1 » Sat Jun 12, 2010 12:56 pm

...Having got in from work in the early hours today, I caught a programme which highlighted the worst ever England starting eleven on BBC 3 (a very interesting programme, though I never knew Andy Cole released a rap single in 1999  ), if you could choose your all time worst, Darlo starting eleven, the sort of team which would not only bomb us out of the BSP but out of existence as well, who would be part of it, and why? - Note you can't just say the team we had last season, that would be cheating, other than that there is no time scale as to how long ago any of the players played for us.

My brain is a bit frazzled at the moment, so I can't think of a full team (quite surprising considering some of the gash we have seen wear the sacred shirt), but I shall name two to begin with, and that is...

GK: Keith Finch - Thrust into the side far too soon, but with the injury to Collett we were left with no alternative. I still have visions of his goal kicks in my head, it was like watching my nephew kick a float away football!! :shifty:

ST: Kirk Jackson - What needs to be said? Touche' Turtle as he became affectionately known, scored one goal for us if my memory serves me correct and I can always remember the buzz about him when he first signed "The next Marco Gabbiadini" ....err, yeah :problem:

Over to you....

Dn1

PS: If this, for whatever reason has been done before....meh....bothered I'm bored out of my head!!

Steve Tupling in midfield was pretty useless, I always wondered how on earth he managed to play so many games for us. I suppose it just goes to show how bad we were at that time.

Matt Green, doing all right now with Oxford.

Norman Lees and John Wilson were the worst players in the 70s.
plus David Crompton in goal.

You can't think of worse players than Phil Hadland?

My team

Keith Finch

Ville Vaisanen
Dave McAughtrie
Dave Moore
Craig James

Keith Gilroy
Phil Brumwell
Fabian Bossy
Jeff Shyte

Mor Diop
Lee Thorpe

I would say that Clint Marcelle was worse than Diop.

Do you really think Phil Brumwell is one of the worst midfielders we've ever had? Seems a bit harsh to me.

Well considering Billy Runwell was a right back that couldn't run, couldn't pass, and had zero technical ability, then yes whenever we played him in midfield he was even worse than his default position.

I was thinking of putting Phil Bonnyman in.

Any Darlo worst eleven is incomplete without Clint Marcelle.

Lol, I'm going to do an Andy Park here (lord please forgive me!!), Your all time worst starting eleven must go by a 4-4-2 formation, and you need to name a player in each position and reasons for why.

I love the random people said but without another 10 players backing it, then this thread will lose meaning

Come on people, reveal ya worst nightmare!!

I can think of much worse than Dickman & Carmichael.

Dont forget that Carmichael weighed in with some crucial goals in the run in during the 1st play off season, including a stunning strike away at Hereford.

Danny Mellanby?

He only played about 10 matches for us before getting a serious injury but in that time he looked to have good potential.

Have to admit I never figured I would see Mellanby on this list, prior to his injury he was bagging goals for fun and was being touted by several higher league clubs if my memory serves me correct (Sheff United being one of them I believe). I still can't help but wonder what if with him.

I will always remember when he got crocked, because (if my memory serves me correct) it was against Hull and as he walked around the pitch he was given a standing ovation. What could of been with him...
