Re: Squad as it stands
with that current list in mind, it looks as tho we need to bring in at least another 3 or 4 players, a defender, midfielder and forward on season long loans would help out a lot.
with no recognised right winger, convery must fancy his chances of being offered something.
its a good first XI but under that we dont have much, youth lads like barnes, lomas, mcready & smith will no doubt feature quite a bit this year.
blyth will be interesting tonight, as if we are to have any more trialists at the club, tonight is the main game i'd expect to see them involved.

Also who is Baxter? I noticed his name mentioned in the RA game but have never heard of him . . .

Re: Squad as it stands
Divas, is that the Vaisennen who we had a few years back?
Re: Squad as it stands
Wylam:- Grant Hickman and Ian Smurthwaite joined Northallerton Town. Not sure about Phil Caley.
Stevie:- I hadn't either, he's on trial at the club. Right winger called James Baxter. Only looks quite young so I don't no if he's for the youth or whatever

yes, after being released by Penney he moved back to Finland and then returnedNed_Flanders wrote:Divas, is that the Vaisennen who we had a few years back?
to England playing non-league with Spennymoor and working at Hedlam Hall as a gym instructor, while continuing his studies.
Wikipedia reckons he returned to Finland to sign for FC OPA for the 09/10 season, however it seems as tho he's been given the chance to win a contract here for next season. I'd think it highly unlikely we'd take him on tho as we're pretty well covered at centre back with Foster, Miller and Plummer who could turn out to be a very good prospect after reading some match reports of his time in Hull City's reserves.

Re: Squad as it stands
i also see that bridges is at yeovil for trials at the mo ? any light on him having a trial up here then?
Re: Squad as it stands
He's gone to Norwich not Yeovil.
Re: Squad as it stands
sorry mate yeah your rite i got my wires crossed with another story line there
Re: Squad as it stands
Presuming everyone is fit, we can stick out a decent first eleven that I would imagine can compete with the majorty of sides in League 2. As someone says above we have feck all cover really and a few injuries and we would be struggling bigtime.
Heres hoping CT can pull a few strings and bring in a couple of decent kids from the Boro.
I really hope Vasien doesnt sign, I recall as soon as Penney took over he was shown the door asap. Seem to recall DP saying he didnt think he was good enough. Lets face it he wasnt a bad judge of a player was he?

Just remind me, who signed Fortune?

Re: Squad as it stands
Yes he also signed Purdie, Abbott, Ravenhill, Miller, Foster, White etc all pretty decent players at L2 level.RUMPLESTILTSKIN wrote:piggy wrote:Presuming everyone is fit, we can stick out a decent first eleven that I would imagine can compete with the majorty of sides in League 2. Re: Squad as it stands
loan players are difficult - who wants to loan out decent players, you also have to bear in mind that there will have been a budget to be adhered to when these signings were made.

Re: Squad as it stands
Lads, lets drop it eh, Penney made good signings and bad, but on the whole the good ones, generally full time deals, would outweigh the bad, generally loans.
Re: Squad as it stands
He had no money when he signed Griffin and Fortune, as the budget had been slashed and the remaining players took up most of it.darlo2001uk wrote:And Griffin, and loan players of the quality of Griffith, Gall, TremarcoRUMPLESTILTSKIN wrote:piggy wrote:Presuming everyone is fit, we can stick out a decent first eleven that I would imagine can compete with the majorty of sides in League 2. Slashed to £2 million, eh Quackers?
Don't worry Norm, I'm only trying to get Quackers on the rev limiter.

Re: Squad as it stands
I got my season's mixed up Ray.
Certainly it looks like the budget was increased again during last season, after being slashed back from £2 million. But at the time Griffin, Poole, Fortune etc were signed we had fuck all to play with. Everybody knows that.

I think we will be mid table this year, at best.
Hopefully, we may see a few young lads come through this season. Are we still investing in the youth team, or has that gone tits up?
