Ty o,neil
Re: Ty o,neil
I would be delighted if we could sign him up but we would have to play him as a striker as he looked less effective when we tried to play him deeper. He may get offers to stay full time but on the plus side he is a local lad and knows the setup well at Darlington.
Re: Ty o,neil
If we could get him seems like a no brainer tbh.
A choice between him and Charman for the ST role, ideally supported by Sousa / Mondal / Rivers and Holmes would be a strong and exciting forward line.

Re: Ty o,neil
Big drop from Championship to NLN and from full time to part time.
Re: Ty o,neil
Agreed but he has not been close to the 1st team at Boro. Surprising that a League 2 or NL team did not take him on loan last season. Luke Charman dropped from Premiership to NLN to join us last season
Re: Ty o,neil
We have got to show interest in signing Ty, then Erico will have to make up his mind & sign

Re: Ty o,neil
Sousa has not yet signed and probably won't, Mondal we know nothing about, Holmes hasn't played in 2 seasons, and won't be ready until September at the earliest. Who knows how good he'll be *if* he can ever regain fitness.
Oh and Charman kept on getting injured last season too.
This seems quite a distance from strong and exciting, as things stand.

Re: Ty o,neil
I'd love to see AA give 2 upfront a bit mroe air time. I think we looked far more dangerous when we had that.
I am unsure if Luke and Ty and the optimal top two pairing, but for me the one upfront system only worked for us sparingly.
Re: Ty o,neil
Pleased to see you are such an optimist. Even an old git like me can look forward expectantly in the close season. It usually takes about 4 games before the gloom starts to descend.Ghost_Of_1883 wrote: ↑Fri May 28, 2021 3:00 pmSousa has not yet signed and probably won't, Mondal we know nothing about, Holmes hasn't played in 2 seasons, and won't be ready until September at the earliest. Re: Ty o,neil
He has definately got something and would improve us, up to him if he wants to play regularly to get back into the EFL, busy month ahead for him.

Is it fashionable to misspell definitely now since LOD finished

Haha. I am not writing off Sousa staying yet. He had trials last year and ended up at Tadcaster Albion.Ghost_Of_1883 wrote: ↑Fri May 28, 2021 3:00 pmSousa has not yet signed and probably won't, Mondal we know nothing about, Holmes hasn't played in 2 seasons, and won't be ready until September at the earliest. EFL won't be back training until June, friendlies in July. He might just want to sign by then to at least have something. He will know we can't wait until the end of July to know.

Re: Ty o,neil
I'd sign him. I'd also like to see us try two central strikers. I probably sound like a dinosaur but quite often it seemed like we struggled to break teams down at home with two wide men and a single striker.
Re: Ty o,neil
I understand the desire for two strikers, but if we are to play one up top this can be replicated with someone consistently breaking into the box from midfield, which is something we’ve lacked for a while.
Re: Ty o,neil
Given our propensity for players getting injured and especially strikers, would be useful to have cover in depth. This gives AA more options and Ty has good close control & different skills to complement the forward line. Too often, opposition teams can mark a single striker out of the game & changing formation during a game can help unsettle them.
Re: Ty o,neil
No brainer for me. It'll depend if he gets any pro offers of course, but I suspect we might be his best option to get some football in and prove he can play higher up.
Re: Ty o,neil
The lad has played 12 mins in the Championship. He’s an academy player. I take your point about full time status though.rogerkay wrote:Big drop from Championship to NLN and from full time to part time.

Ty o,neil
Not so sure, first time around he seemed to have a much better application to the job.
Second time maybe he was not in a good place, not sure, cant be good when your ambitions are not being met at Boro.
Hes a good player no doubt.

Re: Ty o,neil
In his second spell he spent most of the time out of position on the wing and was mainly used as a substitute. With a good run of games in his natural position I'd have no qualms about him returning to previous form. He'd be an excellent signing.MCFCDarlo3 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 07, 2021 6:06 pmNot so sure, first time around he seemed to have a much better application to the job.

Interesting to see him at the first training session tonight. Hopefully means we're still in the running to sign him.

Re: Ty o,neil
Probably just keeping himself in shape training with us. However, we may be in with a shout short term at least, if no teams higher up the leagues come in for him. I'm surprised that a League team hasn't taken a punt on him. Maybe Hartlepool will be looking at him now?
Come on Darlo!

Re: Ty o,neil
From the pictures I've seen there were a couple of others as well as O'Neill who were in Boro training kit so not too big a stretch to guess that they might be Cole Kiernan and Tyler Williams who were also released by Boro's U23's. A striker and CB respectively.
But only guessing at those two. No one else I could recognise.

Re: Ty o,neil
It will be his ability, and the budget and needs of other clubs, rather than his ambition that will dictate where he ends up.quakersfan wrote: ↑Fri Jun 25, 2021 11:58 amCan’t see it happening dropping to part time and NLN - he will be more ambitious than that. Superb if we do though.
Pre-season has only just started, trials will be beginning for many players. Each will have 2 maybe 3 friendlies plus training to prove themselves.
We might have a better feel for who is likely to be available for us by w/c 19th July.
