Season null and voided

Post by eek » Thu Feb 18, 2021 7:27 pm

Votes
Resolution 1
NL: 21 For / 0 Against
NLN: 16 For / 6 Against
NLS: 9 For / 12 Against

🔹Resolution 2 (to end Step 1)
NL: 7 For / 13 Against

🔹Resolution 3 (to end Step 2)
NLN: 15 For / 7 Against
NLS: 9 For / 12 Against

So NLN and NLS are null and void with no promotion and no relegation.

Right call. Legal action won’t get anywhere. The trophy will continue I guess with step 2 teams on flexi furlough. Onto 21-22 season with fans back.

Nice and convenient that there's no relegation for Jim at Dover. Him and some others can chillax now.

Correct decision in the end.why not clear the deck and say what criteria was used to make the funding payments.

Ollie Bayliss tweeted:-

"It's likely to be a formality, but the FA still needs to give final ratification to the outcome.

Resolution 3 has passed which states "subject to approval from the FA those regulations that provide for promotion and relegation to and from Step 2 be suspended for 2020/21."

Basically, the best we could have hope for but Ollie B does not mention when this will happen - in time for Fylde game? Probably not, given the FA are to meet & ratify.

What would be good to see is a mass resignation of the NL Board who got us into this in the first place and a fairer representation of NLN & NLS on the new Board

The right decision has been made. Well done the club for making the right call and continuously backing other clubs that were in a similar position to us.

Conscious is now clear for the FA Trophy tie. The league would have been null & voided anyway, regardless of our vote.

With no finances forthcoming and no fans allowed then it's the sensible decision.

The worry not just for us but everyone is what will the future bring, when will fans be allowed back into grounds and allow this level of football back to go ahead.

It appears AA and his cup run money, may well for the second season keep us in the black and give us a decent base to get going when we are allowed.

I'm glad to see commonsense has prevailed the whole season was a farce from top to bottom from the ludicrous fixture schedule to the absolute shambolic handling of the distribution of the first round of funding and the misinterpretation of grants and loans. It's quite clear there was no prospect of supporters returning this season had it continued but I think we can certainly expect to see a phased return of crowds from the start of next season with a hugely successful vaccine roll out so far and the virus showing a steady and consistent decline we should hopefully be in a much better position come August.

Wholeheartedly agree with the above sentiments. The NL Management Committee have consistently made an absolute mess of things and made a difficult situation worse by their incompetence. Hopefully all clubs will accept the result of the vote with good grace and by the time we play again, possibly in August, things will be much clearer.
Hope all clubs will be able to survive through this difficult time and we can all enjoy watching our teams live next season.

Hats off to both the National League and the Government for making a right royal pigs ear out of all of this.

It's the right thing to do, but let's remember that this will now end up costing the tax payer *more* than if they just came up with some grants... and that's not to say the National League didn't also make an absolute mess both in communicating what was going on and also in dividing out the funds.

There should be resignations all around.

I'm no longer nervous about the ongoing existence of our club, or a bunch of others, so that is at least a positive. We can simply look forward to the Trophy game, hopefully, get a bumper stream, and then hope for something normal next season.

What happens when the government stop the furlough scheme? Who pays the players wages then?

Can't see why the Government is to blame, the National Leagues were given more than most other sports with the initial grants from the National Lottery. They could not justify grants to loss making football clubs, in the main part time clubs certainly at our level without giving the same to other sports... The blame lies totally with the National League board for their mismanagement & the way they managed the situation. I think the National League must have thought or hoped crowds would have been allowed back into grounds before the grant funding ran out. I guess we will never know what they thought but it was made clear to them it seems that no further grants would be forthcoming from the government or any other sources after that initial grant ran out, only loans.
I am not looking for an endless debate on the matter, just my point of view.

It will be interesting to see how the National League teams fare by continuing to play on. I assume unless they are bankrolled they will have to resort to the loans on offer. How can already debt riddled clubs like the Chokers managed to pay back loans even at preferencial rates & longer than normal payback time when they can't pay back their existing debts... Or is their plan not to pay it back in the hope that down the line a plea of poverty will magically make the government loans disappear ?
It must put some of the less well financed National League clubs futures in jeopardy, especially if promotion to the Football League & it's additional income is not achieved.

I was thinking similar. It will be interesting to see what happens, as all attention will now turn to the main National League. About 7 clubs don’t want to play, what are they going to do? Will they be forced to get into financial trouble? Will they field 2nd class players? There is no relegation now so it makes the bottom half of the table pointless anyway and on the BBC there is talk of the EFL wanting a meeting to discuss the relegation issues from EFL to NL.

I don't see a problem there actually - as there isn't any relegation, let the teams who wish to sit things out sit things out and let those who wish to compete compete.

That should allow those teams who wish to compete for a league place continue and those who can't afford to sit things out until August at which point everything will close to being back to normal (unless a freak mutation of covid appears)

Simply should not have included a restart for any non-league football from Step 1 to grassroots. There were always going to be too many variables at this level e.g number of part time or full time teams, fan-owned or privately funded, access to Covid testing etc.

It should have just been Premier League to League 2 (professional clubs) if any at all, given that they do benefit from TV money and other revenue streams. In theory it is probably easier to bio-bubble, attend training and play (although there have been breaches and outbreaks regardless).

The right decision has been made finally at this level although in hindsight it should never have got this far in the first place.

You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"

It looks very likely those teams in the bottom half of the NL who have little chance of promotion and obviously will not be relegated, will just have to play out the season whilst racking up debts possibly by way of loans they would not need if the null and void was applied. Are they in a position to refuse to play and face sanctions...who knows.
Regarding the Codheads, are they taking a massive gamble racking up more debt on top of Singh's loan in pursuit of a return to the EFL.If they miss out again, it's looking like they will be in a hell of a mess.

I'm sure there will be some owners who will quite happily take out loans and load their clubs with extra debt.

Could even contemplate using these new loans to pay off existing debt - parhaps to themselves. And if we are talking 10 or even 20 year repayment periods then how many of these owners will be around to make all the payments.

The top half of the NL could be interesting now regarding goal difference.. If those 7 teams that didn't want to carry on reduce budgets and play youth /reserve teams knowing they can't be relegated expect some fairly big scores in the coming weeks. The final season positions certainly won't be a true reflection regardless of who "wins" the league.

Which then brings the national league's integrity into question, I would not like to be in poolie shoes,, borrowing on top of the debt already owed to the owner, spells disaster should the wheels come off.

The Gloucester chairman has started legal proceedings  He wants promotion from our league to still be on.

He has too much money and absolutely no chance of success.

The National League, by their mismanagement have now opened up a can of worms as they'll be lawsuits coming at them from all sides now.
