Tom Kaak
"He is an old-fashioned striker who goes forward all the time. I do not think Gabbiadini will stand next to him, to be honest. He is 21-years-old, 6ft tall, slim and fast, whereas Gabbiadini was thickset and slow..."

Re: Tom Kaak
Right. Can anyone explain why he was a left back on Champ Man the season before he joined us but joined us as a striker?
Ive always harboured suspicions this is why he wasn't that good. He was a left back trying his luck as a striker and well...he just wasn't.

Re: Tom Kaak
No he wasn't, I remember clearly he was Ton. If you don't believe me google Ton Kaak and loads of stuff comes up. Just one from The Echo here....
"Darlington striker Ton Kaak has returned to Holland, writes RAY SIMPSON.
The 22-year-old joined Quakers during the summer from Dutch club Heracles on a one-year contract, but has failed to make an impact in the Third Division." 30 Oct 2000.

Re: Tom Kaak
His name was TON. Wiki is not 100% -If you read that page you will actually see ANTON but when he came over it was TON.

Anton Kaak was his name as far as I remember, so Ton Kaak is correct.....

Re: Tom Kaak
I'm surprised at young Dan King making such a huge error.

Re: Tom Kaak
Think its a case of he would answer to either Ton or Tom, the latter more than likely down to people thinking it was Tom!theoriginalfatcat wrote: ↑Sat Feb 13, 2021 10:36 pmI'm surprised at young Dan King making such a huge error.
Re: Tom Kaak
Was Ton/Tom actually a 'cult hero'? I'm not really sure you could put him in the same bracket as your Hjorths, Dorners and Burgmeiers.
I heard he was a regular in the Palindrome World XI after he left us though.

Re: Tom Kaak
What made him interesting to me was the fact that Reynolds had bigged him up so much. Reynolds said he was faster and better and fitter than Gabbiadini when in fact he wasn't even average. he was such a disappointment and I think the first goal he scored was deflected in off his arse! Most un Gabbiadini like.

Re: Tom Kaak
I'm reliably informed that although his name is Anton Kaak, he preferred to be called Tom, not Ton.

Re: Tom Kaak
Didn’t we sign a Dutch keeper at roughly the same time?
Re: Tom Kaak
Frank Van De Geest, mentioned in the article I think!wellingaway wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 9:44 pmDidn’t we sign a Dutch keeper at roughly the same time?

Re: Tom Kaak
I have called him Tom Kaak forever, so quite surprised to find out it’s Ton. He was really good on an old version of Football Manager (will have still been Champ Manager back in the day, I suppose!).

Yes, and he was excellent from what I remember, but sods law we had Collett at the time so he only really got a few cup games.loan_star wrote:Frank Van De Geest, mentioned in the article I think!wellingaway wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 9:44 pmDidn’t we sign a Dutch keeper at roughly the same time?
I think Kaak has a bit of cult status as he was the first of the Reynolds post-Wembley signings where that fantastic team was allowed to be dismantled and were replaced by 'better' players in Reynolds eyes, who almost to a man turned out to be complete garbage and totally out of their depth.

We will be playing at the arena again next season - fact.

Not cheap enough, looking at what Kaak has to say about Reynolds and his contract!theoriginalfatcat wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 6:28 pmBut they were cheap, and that's the important thing.Spyman wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 6:19 pmYes, and he was excellent from what I remember, but sods law we had Collett at the time so he only really got a few cup games.loan_star wrote:Frank Van De Geest, mentioned in the article I think!wellingaway wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 9:44 pmDidn’t we sign a Dutch keeper at roughly the same time?
