Great chance of making the last 4 (on paper), but could not have asked for a better draw.Could be 90 mins from Wembley, my god what a thought.

It is a great draw for us, but I'm somewhat doubtful it will happen. The league only seems to be going one way.

Did we play them when we were in the Football League?

Hope we get the chance to avenge our FA Cup 1st Round defeat from 2003. Still has to be a lot of doubt as to whether the competition will be completed. If it is halted maybe it could be completed as part of the preseason for the 21/22 season as only 8 teams left in so could be done.

They beat us 2-0 in 2003. If I remember rightly they had a lot of money pumped into them and had a higher budget than we did at the time!

I see the lack of regionalisation of this competition in the middle of a pandemic is throwing up more common sense ties.

Looks a good draw for us but Wealdstone and Weymouth might have said the same about us. Be nice to avenge the 2003 embarrassment mind.

You expect regionalisation at the quarter final stage of a national competition?

It used to be like that in the Johnstone's paint trophy (or equivalent thereof) didn't it? That's a national competition, and they managed it for higher ranked teams during non pandemic times, so yeah, yeah I do.

You expect teams to schlep 500 miles across the country during a pandemic in which the core message has been against travelling, for a competition between football teams ranked lower than 100th in the country?

This is an F A competition though, not really a lot to do withe the league.Steps 3 and below were allowed to carry on in the F A cup when their leagues were curtailed so I personally think the game will go ahead.

Lets say the league gets called off and the trophy continues, how are we supposed to prepare for these games? We can't afford to have the players not on furlough surely?

We'll prepare for it the same way that Hornchurch will - they play in the Isthmian Premier League (Step 3), which got canned at the same time as the Northern Premier League. Hornchurch last played a league match on 3rd November.

I think talk of avenging the 2003 FA cup defeat is a bit OTT.

The old Hornchurch went pop in 2005 and the Cup defeat was 18 years ago.

Not really revenge-worthy in my view.

Plus in 2003 we were wretched and deserved to lose. Hodgy had only just returned and had Mick Tait’s team to try and sort out.

£5000 given the loser gets £2000 and the winner £7000.

Technically if we beat Hornchurch, the semi-final has in the past been played over 2 legs, not to say that will happen this year.

You’re right, it won’t happen this year.

And we will probably get Torquay away and it wouldnt surprise me if they allowed a small amount of fans in when it happens.

I think I probably meant exorcise rather than avenge, to be honest. I don't hold anything against them for it, but it stung for a long time. It's probably symbolic of where we are now compared to where we were then, looking up on our own terms rather than down under the weight of Reynolds' folly.

As Gramps stated, with it being a one leg semi final I reckon this would be to our advantage and gives us a better chance of getting to Wembley. We have a golden opportunity of making the semi's and a home draw would give us every chance. We are capable of beating any team at home.
