Raj Singh apparently has bought the Brown Trout
Raj Singh apparently has bought the Brown Trout
Its just a rumour i've heard, but apparently Raj Singh apparently has bought the Brown Trout pub in Cockerton, and intends to turn it into a Indian restaurant.
Not sure if this should technically be classed as O.T. or not.
Anyone else heard this on the grapevine, or can anyone else confirm if it is indeed true?

Thought we'd signed Leo Fortune-West for a second there.

Re: Raj Singh apparently has bought the Brown Trout
Raj has previously (allegedly) bought a number of pubs closer to his home with plans in place for development. When such plans have not been approved by the local council, these pubs have (allegedly) (surprisingly) been damaged by fire.

The Brown Trout could be improved by fire!

CAMRA is currently running a very effective campaign against closing or closed pubs being given planning permission for change of use.
Admittedly this is aimed at rural pubs being converted into private houses or flats. The Bay Horse at Middleton Tyas and the Travellers Rest at Skeeby are two examples.

Re: Raj Singh apparently has bought the Brown Trout
Up to last year I lived a couple of yards away from the pub, always pretty quiet except for sunday lunch times, with little passing trade.Sad it has now closed but I do know they were struggling.Hilly wrote:Is the Bay Horse the one at very bottom of the bank?Jazz Maverick wrote:Gutted about the Bay Horse. Didn't know that it had closed... We play Middleton Tyas in our Cricket League and we usually went there afterwards. One of our lads will be distraught as last time we were there he took a bit of a liking to the lass behind the bar.

Re: Raj Singh apparently has bought the Brown Trout
There's some good young lads playing for Richmond! Half of them obviously tend to come from the private schools e.g. Barnard Castle School, which I did as well many moons ago would you believe!wylam_rangers wrote:Come and play County Cricket for Richmondshire!
I think there's a 5th team coming into the league this season as well.
Re: Raj Singh apparently has bought the Brown Trout

Proud winners of the NEWROC Darlington and District 'C' League 2009!!!
"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"

That's the Division I've been playing in these last couple of years. Very depressing!real_darlo_85 wrote:Proud winners of the NEWROC Darlington and District 'C' League 2009!!!

Re: Raj Singh apparently has bought the Brown Trout
Yeah, it used to have the funny shaped one, cost me a fortune in pints, trying to gamble on the thing!
One of my mates tried buying it when we heard the horse was closing, because we knew it has been sat out in the storage shed for years and only needed a bit of fixing up. They had got rid of it a while back though, which was a shame.

Punch already own this. Apparently the pub is set to be going Independent so there could be some truth in it.phillyallinson wrote:apparently raj singh has offer to take over the Copper beach. i got told this of my mate this morning at college

Looks as though it's already independent - there's no corporate branding at all on the websiteTeessideQuaker wrote:Punch already own this. Been a while since I bothered to look when in Darlo, but isn't their already a curry place (Spice4U or something) in Cockerton?
Add to that the fact there's already a Chinese, a chippy and a couple of pizza places may mean it'll be difficult for Raj to get permission to convert it, if that's his plan.

It was certainly Punch until a couple of weeks ago at the latest, as I deal with Pub Companies on a daily basis. As far as I am aware, it's still under Punch Taverns ownership.wylam_rangers wrote:Looks as though it's already independent - there's no corporate branding at all on the websiteTeessideQuaker wrote:Punch already own this.
