Darlington V Liverpool

Post by Darlopartisan » Mon Dec 14, 2020 10:08 pm

So team for the FA Trophy game against City of Liverpool,
I am assuming that everyone is fit now after our extended COVID-19 isolation.
Really looking forward to this game just to watch some football again.
So who’s up for a first go at predicting the team 😀

I'd imagine he'll go strong. Only big questionable ones are whether Maguire and Liddle are back fit enough to play. Otherwise should have a full squad to choose from. Id go for:

----------------------- Saltmer -----------------------
McMahon --- Hunt --- Storey ---- Liddle
----- Holness -- Wheatley --- Hatfield ----
Sousa ----------- Charman ----- Campbell

Subs: Laing, Hedley, Rivers, O'Neill, Maguire

At moment that’s probably our best side, if Liddell is still not fit then Watson slots in.

I'm expecting that the game will be cancelled based on Covid news tonight (not looking good out there).

Would love the game on but I just can't see it happening.

I don't see the game being cancelled, Coronavirus levels in Darlington are remaining relatively steady.

The streaming seems a touch expensive, I thought for a minor Trophy game it might have been less - to lure people in.

Expensive ?
It would cost me more to get the bus to Darlington and back from where I live, never mind the entrance fee on top.
I think at £7.99 it's a bargain.

I agree about the value. But I can also see the argument that there might be an opportunity for a game like this (rather than our Bread and Butter games) to see if we can entice a few more fans to watch by lowering the price. Hopefully they might come back for the League games. Of course we don't want this to be a loss maker, but there might be a balance?

Would making it 5.99 actually get any more viewers??? Just reducing money to the club.

Not sure if it works the same for streaming proceeds, but think in normal times the away side would have to agree to a lowering of the ticket cost, after all they would be due half the proceeds after matchday expenses. Tough times for all clubs and can understand everyone wanting to try and maximise cashflows at times like these. Not saying this is what has happened, but may be another reason why its not just as easy as saying £5 for a trophy game.

That was my point about "balance" there would have to be enough extra fans to still generate the same income as had the price stayed the same. I'm sure it's something the club have thought about. Unfortunately there isn't time to do any market research to gauge whether fans don't currently buy a ticket based on cost or the "importance" of the game.

£7.99 is very reasonable, I doubt dropping it to £5.99 would increase the numbers to warrant a reduction.
Especially as Darlofans Radio is free.

In fact I would make it £7.99 minimum with an option to round it up for those that choose to or those that have several fans watching together.

Liverpool get a 50% cut of the streaming fees as per cup/trophy policy

Ah of course I had forgotten about that....But if Liverpool get their correct share based on 7.99 we keep the surplus.
Probably over complicated to do, just a thought.

Maybe it could be an option for league games if allowed by the league...I doubt it though, the league would not allow season tickets for the streaming. I would have happily paid up front.

Always trying to think of new ways to generate extra income 😉

Fantastic goal from Charman, hope there are no scouts watching from other clubs watching him.

???

Surely we want him to attract attention so much we can sell and continue to have a reputation as a stepping stone to professional football?

I'd like us to keep him for sometime, his value will only increase.

Ill take that, decent performance after 2 weeks off with no training. Thought Charman looked great last night, varied his play and gave their CBs a really tough game, capped off with an absolute worldy of a goal. Good to see Sousa look sharpe and take his goal well. With some general nice interplay and passing to create some of our chances.

There were a few defensive jitters but mostly i think we limited them which is fairly pleasing as going forward they didn't look a bad side, couple of dangerous balls across the box and the clearance off the line by Sousa on the post (but thats what men on the post are there for). Credit to them as well for the way they defended, they put their bodies on the line. For us its the usual complaint about taking chances and making the game safe, could easily have been 5 by the end had Sousa and O'Neill not had shots defended off the line and Maguire's effort caught the inside rather than the outside of the post.

Take the prize money and fitness from the game onto Saturday.

I thought we improved a lot in the second half, first half liverpool were very good and caused us a lot of bother, so it was pleasing to see us step it up like that.

Think they tired a lot in the second half. Remember they have played less than us recently

£7.99 is indeed a bargain unless Mr Cansfield is anywhere near a microphone and then it’s worth a whole lot less
