Anyway we’ll get stuffed by Gateshead, licking our wounds. Then back on it against Hereford

Are you saying we didn't have two fit CB's that could have played over Atkinson?
Why do we continue to persist with Reid who is consistently anonymous in games?
Why, when 6 nil down, did we not give Hudson minutes to see if he has anything to offer?
We are hardly setting the world on fire in the league, so changes need making. This is not a controversial statement.
On Reid. Clearly Armstrong believed he adds more than others otherwise he'd choose someone else to start.
On Hudson. I don't know but I assume that Armstrong is aware that he can make substitutions so he clearly believed that it wasn't the correct choice to make. Otherwise he'd have brought him on as you suggest.
Armstrong obviously mistakes decisions because he believes they are the right ones - this goes without saying and doesn't need pointing out
darlo-baron is questioning these decisions, which seems completely normal to me.

Good postLoidLucan wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 5:56 pmI found it quite alarming that we somehow managed to let in six goals during a 30-minute spell of playing time and at least three of those had nothing to do with with the three-league gulf between the sides. The first was comedic on our part, the first penalty was a ridiculous challenge and completely inexplicable and for the final goal we just left the player who headed the ball completely unmarked.
Those goals all had nothing to do with them being a League One side and everything to do with inept play on our part. They should be analysed because most sides in National North would also have capitalised on them as well. You won't win any game defending like that.

Re: Away to Bristol rovers
I'm disappointed but not downhearted. We've done really well to get here and made some substantial cash along the way. We can all pick a side with hindsight but we're not insiders who know how fit the players are. We've had a lot of injuries and maybe that's impacted on team selection. We started very well and it was hard to tell which was the league 1 team for a while. I'm not a Reid fan but I'm not going to slate anyone and we certainly had some bad luck today. it wasn't our best performance and it's a shame we weren't in that corner cheering the team on.
Re: Away to Bristol rovers
Good point - I think that would have made a big difference like Walsall away. Also, I believe it's a factor at home. That first goal today seemed to break us.

Re: Away to Bristol rovers
Just listening to the interviews. Ray Simpson described the first penalty as harsh. I think it was up there with one of the most clear cut penalties I've ever seen. Did I miss something?

That was a penalty all day long, only Atkinson will know why he had to make that stupid challenge.lo36789 wrote:Just listening to the interviews. Ray Simpson described the first penalty as harsh. I think it was up there with one of the most clear cut penalties I've ever seen. Did I miss something?

His head had gone and it was Sunday league stuff I’m afraid for 15 mins. Lot of work to do on the mental side of the game with a fair few of the players from what we’ve seen recently. Talented bunch but that’ll only take you so far.QUAKERMAN2 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 10:48 pmThat was a penalty all day long, only Atkinson will know why he had to make that stupid challenge.lo36789 wrote:Just listening to the interviews. Re: Away to Bristol rovers
You would hope he isn’t gracing the first team terribly soon. Regardless of the level of our opponents, the mental errors mean he should be behind others who are more than capable and deserving of a chance.
Re: Away to Bristol rovers
I don't think it was a 6-0 game. Four observations:
1) A great shop window for our players today not taken. Charman didn't turn up. What a wasted opportunity for him.
2) There has got to be an end product to Darlo possession.
3) If you don't shoot you don't score.
4) It's now so important who scores the 1st goal on Wednesday. Darlo get it then Gateshead will have open up a bank of 4-5-1/5-4-1.
Big game this week. Up the Darlo.

1. Charman was far too isolated to make an impact.B_Little wrote: ↑Mon Nov 30, 2020 1:43 amI don't think it was a 6-0 game. Four observations:

3. We had 11 shots - not too shabby against a D1 side, especially after playing the first 45 minutes with only 10 men.
Re: Away to Bristol rovers
For the first half hour, we competed well. Disappointed that we lost focus after that first goal and got punished for every mistake we made. But that sometimes happens when playing against a team far better than you - we did something similar to Tadcaster.
However, we've had a good run, made some good money. We now need to turn around our home form in the league - which won't be easy against Gateshead.

Good summary. We made too many mistakes and Rovers took full advantage.al_quaker wrote: ↑Mon Nov 30, 2020 9:28 amFor the first half hour, we competed well. First penalty was clear as day. I thought the second was a little soft, but can see why it was given. Two experienced players should really have known better - there was no need for either. Indications of how much the focus had gone in that middle third of the game.

On Atkinson (I’m not a fan of bashing players) and people are really taking a swipe. No one seemed to question him much before this game, in fact he’d been getting compliments along with Laing. One bad performance (and I’m sure he knows he wasn’t at his best) and he’s written off in a lot of people’s opinions

Re: Away to Bristol rovers
When was the last time we progressed further than Sunderland in the FA Cup?
Re: Away to Bristol rovers
Missed out on a home tie against Sheffield United.
Re: Away to Bristol rovers
Good spot. How could I forget our cup run then. Probably because Telford away has scarred me for life.
Just seen we did it in 1958 too. Sunderland lost 3-1 to Everton in Round 3 so we got 2 rounds further than them.
1984 we both went out in Round 4.
And in 1911 we got 2 rounds further than them.

Made up for them. I walked around and spoke to a few of their committee last night as they were celebrating in the car park and they were jubilant. Based on a few texts I've had back tonight they are a little bit excited.

I hope fans will be allowed. Marine's proper fans at least - there probably won't be that many of them.

Re: Away to Bristol rovers
I think they have been pretty much all ticket all season so far and given government said the max capacity is based on the previous guidance it will be limited to 450.
By the time they have given Tottenham their 30% they will be sold out on their normal crowds.
