Darlington v Prescot Cables

Post by JE93 » Fri Oct 02, 2020 8:39 am

Feel's so good to be thinking about a match thread on a Friday. I know Premiership and FL football has been back for a few weeks now but nothing beats football where you actually care about the results at the end of the game.

Will be a tough game tomorrow, not just because of the potentially wet and windy conditions. They're already 4 games into their season won two FA cup games and won one and lost won in the league. Think it will need to be a game where we show our quality, keep the ball and make them chase, let them tire themselves out and wait for the opportunities to come. Looking at the additions to the squad we definitely have the quality to create and take chances when they arise.

Although the FA cup money is reduced this season I'm sure the c.£4k for progressing in this round would be a very welcome sight to DJ and the rest of the board. The cup run last year really brought fans and players together (as well as the obvious very useful additional revenue) and hopefully it can be the same again this year.

Team'wise still not sure if either Laing or Storey are fit or have played either of the warm up games against Pools or Gateshead, I could see Laing in the background of the photo's from yesterdays training session. I think I'd go for (4-4-2) which gets most of our dangerous players on the pitch from the start, if Laing is fit I'd put him in from the start as I expect we might have a bit more of the ball tomorrow and as we saw at AFC Telford (A) last season, when teams give us time on the ball Laing is one who can pick passes from deep and get us on the front foot. Obviously if neither Laing or Storey are ready to go then we could potentially see Atkinson or Reid slot in next to Hunt.

---------------------- Saltmer ---------------------

Mcmahon ----- Laing ----- Hunt ------ Liddle

Rivers ----- Hatfield --- Wheatley --- Campbell

------------- Charman --- Maguire --------------

Subs: Storey, Reid, Hedley, Donawa, Atkinson

Sorry but Donowa has to play wide right for me. Think Campbell will play off either Charman or Maguire in the middle.

Same team as above but Donawa wide right, Rivers wide left and Cams in for Charman alongside Nippa up front.
Brilliant to get the season started at long last, next up is the Arena with 2000+ fans watching.

I would have a fit Storey way ahead of Laing providing some steel, leaving the long range passes to Hunt, I would put Campbell behind Charman and replace Maguire (impact sub) with Donawa

No ladders , no one standing on someones shoulders as the police have nothing better to do than go to BM and stop you looking over the fence.
Hot air balloon anyone?

I don't think any of us have seen enough in pre-season to really decide or know what to expect in terms of 4-3-3 or 4-4-2.

Tricky one for AA does he go attacking not sure what his team can do fully yet and the opposition are further on in their progress or does he go 4-3-3 with a solid midfield 3 and try to control the game early on.

A real challenge of the unknown for us tomorrow.

Impressed with Hunt and McMahon so far. Our defensive anxieties finally over?

This Quaker TV is excellent, much better than BBC coverage of York game. Well done to all involved.

Thanks for that BGA, I have only just got home so didn't sign up for the TV coverage & I can't get on to DFR.

I thought it was 2-0, have Prescot Cables pulled a goal back? Now 2-2, not good.

Great news. Really tough playing a team that is match fit, when we've not really had a pre-season. What was the score in the shoot-out?

5-4 Darlo. Saltmer saved 2. We missed our first pen.

Well, that was an experience!! Well done Quaker TV. First time full game-apart from some tunnel echo and some slightly dodgy camera work it was very professional. If you think premier games have at least 14 top drawer cameras and dozens of people linked by a fully equipped outdoor broadcast truck you did yourselves and the club proud. Well done!! We're through to the next round and some prize money to boot. Hunt was great til the daft tackle and Saltmer was excellent, very vocal and some good saves. Decent all round team performance and a win. Thankfully the wind here doesn't appear to have reached Durham!!

It was £7.99 and well worth it. Everyone had to pay-its not a league game.
