Taken from his Facebook page:

Peter Gibson MP:

⚽️⚽️⚽️ Football⚽️⚽️⚽️

Over on Twitter there has been quite a bit of traffic following my recent correspondence on behalf of Newcastle United Fans.

I thought it would be helpful to confirm a few things.

1. More than sixty residents of Darlington have written to me regarding Newcastle United, and as their MP I have quite correctly taken action on their behalf.

2. I am keen to support ALL sporting activity in Darlington.

3. I have visited Darlington Football Club, attended my first match just weeks after I was elected. (a 3-0 victory for the Quakers over Alfreton on the 18th January - I’m always pleased to see the Reds beaten 😉)

4. I have joined the membership of Darlington Football Club. (No - not on expenses, that’s not allowed)

5. I have so far received only two letters regarding Darlington Football Clubs current request to play at the Arena, and following receipt of those I am in the process of arranging a meeting with the Club management. I will update you further once the meeting takes place.

Football Clubs are the lifeblood of any community and that is no different here in Darlington. I will continue to do all I can to support ALL sports in our town and to support all constituents of Darlington whichever team they support.
3 and 4 are laughable. Just leave it at 2 (Although i'd be keen to point out that if he's terribly bothered about 2, he'd know that using his public presence to speak in support of Newcastle fans undermines this). Don't pretend to care about something you really don't
Why are 3 and 4 laughable? Genuine question.

It's peter.gibson.mp@parliament.uk according to his website

not '@parliament.co.uk'
My mistake - I’ve amended the OP.

Gibson does what Conservative office tells him to do, just look at his voting record.

No different from Unions making donations to Labour candidates.
A lot of businesses make donations to political parties & candidates.
The Labour Party was specifically founded to give the working class a political voice.

So no.

It isn't.

Oh so if you are working class it is mandatory to vote Labour ?
That didn't seem to work at the last election.

Not a big fan of politics in football but essentially people can donate to whichever party or candidate they chose.

I though he was too busy sorting out those railway bridges on Yarm Road (in Darlington) to worry about Newcastle yet?

Really failing to see how these are the same thing. The Labour party, and i'd assume every political party in the country accept private donations also. That's a better line of argument, but but doesn't mean you're not accountable for who you do and don't take money from.

No one is saying he isn't allowed to take the money. We are allowed the opinion however that he's an insincere weasel for taking it and then pretending to care a damn about Darlington Football Club.

Remember as well that half of Darlington isn’t in his constituency. Some may need to contact the Hummersknot councillor, DUrham County Councillor, Tees Valley Authority Member, Property Developer and landlord and MP for Sedgefield Paul Howell.
Those who are in his constituency might ask that the Tory Independent and member of 13 Quangos Cllr Nicholson, who works for Mr Gibson, doesn’t get involved as he is no friend of the Club.
Waiting for Raj to shaft them!

Give our MP Peter Gibson his due, he took time to call me this morning in response to an email I sent regarding the reaction from some Darlo fans to his letter to Newcastle United re their potential takeover & how it was being perceived by Darlo fans.
We spoke candidly for about 20 minutes about him responding to a request from 62 Newcastle to help in their case. He said that at that time he had had only 2 letters from Darlo fans & he is quite happy use any influence he can to help DFC, he has been in contact with the club to discuss this.
So perhaps if you already have not voiced your opinion to him directly you should, it would probably be of more use than opinions on here.

It seems that this has been an orchestrated plan by many NUFC fans right across the country. Many M.P's have been getting emails from their constituents, who claim to be angry Newcastle fans - they probably are but the Internet is a strange place.

I hope no police horses have been punched by the huge number of very disappointed Newcastle fans.

I see 30 MPs have signed a letter to the sports minister asking for fans to be allowed to attend non-league matches. I wonder if Mr Gibson was one of them.

Other way round.

The Labour Party didn't demand people's votes, it was set up to campaign for them, and provide a political voice.

You can opt out of the political levy in your union subs.
